Not that I know anything about anything, but I suggest this bass just got very lucky: they happened to be doing a batch of those kinds of necks, they happened to be doing a batch of Himalayan Blue, and so it accidentally scooted through the system.
If my Option Order LB-100 could arrive 3 months early, I'd be happy too!

I ordered mine in March. In my head I'm planning for late October. It's not anything near "plain Jane". Kiloton 5 in empress with a quartersawn neck with matching headstock in graphite metallic.
Goes with: If "Happy Days" was made today, it would be set around the year 2000.
Question for anyone who knows. The L2K I recently got has a quartersawn flame roasted neck. I'm conjuring up a build idea for an ASAT bass and noticed roasted maple isn't an option on the G&L site for build to order or custom shop. I don't really have a wild build idea in mind outside of this and wondered if this is available for build to order or a custom shop special request?
My understanding is that roasted maple necks are only available on Custom Shop builds. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.
Hi G&L lovers. I just indulged myself with a Tribute L2000 in Sunburst. Got it shipped over from the east coast. I'm a total tone slut and wanted me some Justin Chancellor (Wal-esq) type tonage. I couldn't get what I wanted from my Stingray even with my new Q Strip (which is awesome BTW). My Rick comes close but after reading several forums it seemed like a Wal, a Peavy T40 or the G&L (yeah I passed on the likely $10k price tag of the Wal haha). I seemed to get a good deal paying around $880 CAD with taxes. Unboxing it I found black oily looking marks on the neck and it felt a tad sticky (gave it a clean....). Anyway FF to playing it and I was ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY. I am talking grinning like the village idiot kind of happy (relieved I now had THAT tone). WOW. How are these bases not up there with the likes of MM, Fender and so on (at least tone wise)... I love how much versatility it has. A/P (A - bright), PU: Bridge, Neck, both, series / parallel... cool! And the sustain.... mmmm mmmm mmm
Now today, after acclimatizing with it a little more. I noticed that on the back of the neck, right in the middle (7th ish fret) there's an area that I can only describe as feeling like some dirt / dry sweat. Closer inspection reveals it's slightly cratered. Just enpugh to make you know it's there, if you see what I mean. I also noticed some very slight edges on the frets (v slight). The worst thing, unless I am imagining it, seems to be the Series / Para' switch. I have been almost entirely in passive mode and have had the S/P switch set to P as it feels bigger / fuller / powerful. However every now and again I feel like notes played on the G string, tends to ping (higher pitch / harsh sounding). It sounds wrong, in a high pitch kind of sense. I feel like if I move the S/P switch (nothing else), that it goes away. It's almost like the Active with bright is being engaged. It could also be my poopy playing and imagination.
So wanted to come here and see what y'all thought. Hope I am in the right section.
Thought has crossed my mind, now, to get the CLF. But that's a full $2.3k more, which seems mental.

Check if the string is twisted (at the ball end) by loosening it and feeling if is rotates/snaps a bit.
Maybe a new set of string...

You realize that it's a unwritten Talkbass requirement that, if you put up a NBD post, you must also post pictures? 
Congrats! And if you think you like the tone of it now, wait 'til you hear it in a band mix. I think THAT'S where the L-xxxx basses prove themselves. To be honest, I'm not always so blown away by the tone of my L-2500 just practicing at home. But, once I hear it in a band context, WOW!
Another run out with in in my loft, just now and I paid particular attention to my attack (picking in this case). I think that this is the cause. I seem to be able to cause a harsh twang if I increase the attack too much. Not as much impact with my other basses. These pups are sensitive - love it. I believe the strings are Elixir Nickels (14077??), which are very bright (I think I like them). I'll probably throw on some EB Hybrids with a 110 E for extra girth soon. Though the bass may go back. I totally dig the natural colour over the turdburst, but that was almost $300 CAD more.... Though did have a "better" fingerboard. That's like a 3rd of the cost.
I guess because no one mentioned the tiny crater thing, on the back of the neck that it's no biggie? I appreciate wood can be sanded but that's effort I didn't expect from a new bass. It's got a nice matt finish which I am not sure how you would blend (though maybe overthinking this).

Yeah I am not really a fan of turdburst either. It reminds me of cigarette stains - yuk. But it was 1/3 less than the ever so sexy natural. I may yet get the natural depending on what the shop says. I would have noticed the issues I am sure if I was in the shop (neck craters, fret edges and a few small finish chips on the back - I forgot to mention). I think my attack was a big eager on the twang thing. Maybe.

Sensitivity can be a good thing, helps articulation. I didn't comment on the 'crater' because it is hard to judge how it feels. To me the neck is the most important part of the instrument - that is what I look at first when checking out a bass.
An over all good bass may ease my fussiness when it comes to selecting for a purchase, but your standards/preferences may differ.
