Sensitivity can be a good thing, helps articulation. I didn't comment on the 'crater' because it is hard to judge how it feels. To me the neck is the most important part of the instrument - that is what I look at first when checking out a bass.
An over all good bass may ease my fussiness when it comes to selecting for a purchase, but your standards/preferences may differ.

Yeah I don't think I am being fussy. None of my other basses (Rick, Sterling Ray, MIM P bass) have any issues like this. So I am a bit p'd off. Because I spoke to the guy on the phone who was supposed to be setting it up. I bet he noticed it but sure as S didn't mention it. Any player would notice it. I can probably get over it with further discount but I love the tones so much I am almost trying to justify a CLF ha ha.

Update: If I wiggle the 1/4" jack side to side it crackles. F F F F. How frustrating. Maybe I'll flip the back off and see if it can be tightened...Not impressed so far Indonesia.... My Sterling Ray was top quality.... this is far from

Your brand new bass will have a warranty that will cover all that stuff from the crater in the back of the neck to the jack. Contact the dealer you bought it from.

By the way, those deep panel jacks, if that's what is still on a Tribute L2k, are notoriously troublesome. I replaced the ones in my Tribute L2000 and L2500 with Switchcrafts, but the best solution is to have a luthier drill out the hole and put a plate and a regular jack in it. Or you can do that yourself if your pretty handy.

I was just listening to some flats demos on YouTube, mostly labellas vs this or that, almost all done on a Precision. One video surprisingly used an SB-2. The Labellas and the bass didn't seem to be pulling in the same direction, but the Daddario Chromes sounded really at home on it.

I have a 2012 Indonesian tribute L2k. It's excellent, and yes, it has MFDs. I liked it so much I had it refinished, which cost more than the bass itself.

Yes, all L-series Tributes have MFDs.

Thanks. How heavy is it. Are these the 12" radius necks? The 2 basses I have (G&L Fullerton JB & Yamaha TRBX-504) have thinner necks. Not sure how as 12" radius neck would feel.

It's been a long time since I've used stainless steel strings, but I used to use D'Addario ProSteels quite a bit. There are also the Dunlop Super Brights, DR Hi Beams, and I had good luck years ago with LaBella Hard Rockin' Steel.

I somehow got away from steel strings and went to nickel, but I'd probably go with the D'Addarios now just because I use a lot of D'Addarios and have never had a bad string, which I can't say for Dunlops and DR. I've had great strings from DR, but I've had some duds right out of the package, too.

I generally prefer nickel plated steel, but I love DR Fat Beams on my G&L SB-2, and I've also liked Dean Markley Blue Steels. The Blue Steels are fairly bright.

I think the Fat Beams would be a great match for many basses and styles. I haven't used DR's Hi-Beams, but I'm pretty sure I would like them, and I have a set waiting around to try.

I normally use nickels as well. I tried steels a long time ago, and didn't like the "twanginess" of them. I think those were Dean Markleys. However, this bass's pickups are unusually dark-sounding. Based on your recommendation, I did some research and discovered that I can buy D'Addario Pro Steels as singles at juststrings.com (with which I have no affiliation). In fact, that's the only way they sell them. The bass I need them for is a 5-string, so it's nice to have gauge options. I have a set of their house brand stainless wound on this bass now. They sound great, but they're kinda rough on the fingers (and fretboard, no doubt). Like you, I've never had a bad D'Addario string. Thanks again.
