Just remember, be honest and fair. Don't expect to pay $800 for a $2000 guitar. Don't expect the seller to take a loss just because you don't have the money. They might not be in any better boat than you are!
And, last but not least...
My LB-100 will be going to the tech on Wednesday, to get the Dimarzio and Pro Steels fitted with my usual set up. Ahead that, I've briefly put my set of Chromes on it, so that I can have a quick glimpse of how I feel about flats on a glossy maple fretboard — I had feared I might find it an overwhelmingly slippery experience, but I'm fine.
I'm also finding that I much prefer the LB-100's pickup with Chromes than with Boomers. I think this might prove to be a general rule with me – that with alnico I want flats. So now I need a bass to put these strings and this pickup on.....
PS I've been wondering how Chromes get on with noiseless jazz pickups and preamps — have any of our MJ-4 owners ever tried flats on theirs?

I returned it last night at the Orlando store because the truss rod is shot!
There is no tread at all in the truss rod, and it won't move, the bass is unplayable, their tech confirmed it.
I cannot believe these guys posting it for sale today.

Thanks for the heads up. The ad says it's in "excellent" shape. Since when does unplayable with a stripped out truss rod nut qualify as excellent?

Just the same old way GC has done business all along. I'll share my story with you all....briefly.
Some years ago I found an original US built Roland Blues Cube 60 for a very good price offered by a store in MA. It was listed in #4 condition which at that time was one below mint, essentially excellent in today's verbiage. It was after hours and I couldn't call the store to verify it's condition so I bought and had it shipped to my local GC for just $12.50.
When it arrive I had them unbox it at the store and what we found was not only a torn grill cloth but one that had been pierced deep enough to have punctured the speaker cone as well. The reverb tank was shot and over half of the brass caps on the control knobs were missing. All that aside the rest would've rated as in "Good" condition at best not "Excellent".
The MA store refused to have it repaired locally, my store surely didn't want it, so the MA store refunded all but my $12.50 shipping and my local store decided to just give me the amp to repair myself even selling me an Emi CRex at cost to replace the speaker. I ordered a new reverb tank and some grill cloth and for around $100 total got it up and running 4 square.
This is just how some GC stores do business but not every single one. My local guys whom I had dealt with before and also referred students to treated me right and made good on the deal. The MA store essentially told me to pound sand and refused to provide what they had advertised as an amp in "Excellent" condition. I still have that amp. It's a classic.
Winter NAMM in 2023 hasn't happened yet. I believe it's in March this year
Hello mangs. I just ordered a Kiloton 5 which will be my first G&L. It's doesn't have a fancy finish, just gloss black with a rosewood fretboard. I think it's rosewood. It's 8.5 pounds.
I'm pretty excited about this. I've been interested in these since the 4-string came out. Even though I have a very nice Ibanez EHB1505MS, I am a passive mang at heart and I like that the Kiloton only has one pickup. 5-string, single pickup basses with passive electronics are extremely rare. Hopefully this bass works out for me.
Please feel free to tell Herrick about which settings you prefer to use on these basses. I've read somewhere (probably here) that the volume control can have a big impact on the tone compared to other basses.

I have a Kiloton 5 that I got a couple months ago. My other main bass is a G&L LB100. Regarding settings, you will notice the series setting (switch pointed towards the neck) is significantly louder than any other bass you own. This is my favorite setting, but it does drive the front end of my amp harder and pushes into overdrive, sometimes not intended. To correct this, I set my amp to the ideal gain level for my K5 in series, and then if I use another setting or another bass, I have a clean boost pedal I just to bring my input gain to an equal level of the K5 in series.
I also find the single coil setting on the K5 (middle switch position) to sound great. It has more clarity, but does produce some hum since it's single coil. Personally, I am not a fan of the parallel setting, but that's just me!
What exactly does the parallel setting do?
Oh and the string spacing is 17.5mm, right?

I just heard from my G&L guy that the MFD J pickups are not an official product, but they will accept orders for them on a Custom Shop JB.
My recollection was that the pickups were too tall to fit in most J pickup routes, so this jibes with that. I assume they would route the CS JB pickup routes deeper than usual to accommodate the taller pickups.
FYI - that assumption was just confirmed. The MFD J pickups are too tall to fit in a Fender or even in a G&L JB. They have to cut deeper pickup routes, and that's where the Custom Shop gets involved.
technically speaking it takes each pick coil and sends it to the volume put in parallel (side by side), vs series in which one coil's signal passes through the other coil before going to the pot.
tonewize, parallel has less low end and more clarity than series. I just thought it sounded thin and bland.
Or a redneck with a dremel tool/router! Any idea if they'll sell the pickups a la carte?
My most used setting on the Kilo is SC.
I'll use series on occasion for that really meaty tone.
Parallel? Meh.
I remember a while back I plugged it in and thought "why does this sound wrong?"
Looked down, it was in parallel.
