I've ordered a few L-1000s with 1.5" necks and then stupidly sold them. This was a really nice one.

That is a pretty one with the white pickup. There's a blue burst on Reverb now that looks nice. 1.625 nut but I could deal with that. L1000 is an itch I might have to scratch...

This isn't that far off from that and while not perfect, if it's anything like the Kiloton I just bought, better than most "minty" basses I've seen/bought.

Saw this ASAT locally. Not interested personally (too rich for me at the moment), but a nice looking bass if anyone is looking for one.

The difference being that 2014's $1200 was specced out to order, not an off the peg bass. Now, a L-1000 with rosewood fb, 1½" nut and ash body is $3735

Ah well, I still remember getting change back from my dollar at McD's for a meal. Well, kind of a meal.
G&L asked me to forecast how many basses I'll be ordering in the next 3 quarters... I don't think they will like my answer.
I mentioned twice as I put in a pretty paltry forecast that allowing nut width and radius changes on Build To Order instruments might help improve things a bit. Then the price obstacle would still have to be overcome, but that just is what it is. G&L is not alone in charging way more than they used to, that's pretty much across the board these days... we just have to wait for people to get used to it. Ugh.

Reminds me of when Music Man streamlined their operation a few years ago.
They had a great "virtual builder" on their site for quite some time. Showing you a representation of what your instrument would look like.
The ones that took the biggest hit, was us lefties.
I hate to say it, I'm trying to be not to be too critical about it....but just calling it like I see it. To me, it appears that G&L seems rather unconcerned about listening to key dealers or customers these days. maybe it's just the bass side, I don't know if they have the same aversion on the guitar side.
Glsd I loaded up on them over the last several years.
I have 2 JB5s, 2 L-2500s, SB2, and an M-2500 fretless for basses and an ASAT S, Legacy, and Fallout for guitars. Probably all worth more than I paid for them. Especially since many of the options on them are now custom shop options.
I don't consider it too critical at all.
I think you're quite on point.
From what I understand, G&L's Custom Shop currently has over a year's worth of orders to fill. Seems like their customers are lining up to buy stuff.
Part of my wait was getting the right woods in stock.
Having said that.....worth the wait. On par with the numerous boutique basses I own/have owned over the years.
I'd get a fretless neck for that...Finally got mine after 26 months.
That is a lovely bass.
