I've bought a L2000 bass which I could tried out before buy. A luthier made it fretless because I didn't want to order a fretless bass online which I couldn't try before Buy. It was very excited but I never doubted it and if I want it fretted again, the luthier can do that.

I had a fretless SB2 for many years. Very useable tone and playability, but ultimately, I preferred the sound of my fretless L1000. The M series has never been on my radar, and to be honest, I'm more enthused by the possibility of a fretless Kiloton.
I've always prefered brighter strings. For the last few years I have used DR high Beams, but last year I ordered a few sets of Dunlop Nickle Super Brights and I've had great luck with them. When new almost as bright as Stainless but settle in nicely and last a long time for me. I agree if you are looking for something more mellow the DR Sunbeams would be a good place to start if you want to stay with round wound strings.
Also one thing I have learned with strings and recommendations, everyone has different body chemistry and what works and lasts for me might not for you even if the tonal goals are the same. GHS Boomers for instance. Many swear by them and for me they dont work at all. Dead, dull and lifeless in a matter of days.

Funny you should say that after what I said, mine became dead maybe after a year or so. Flea has a fresh set every show I think or he used to.
I am just about to string my ASAT Semi hollow with DR DDT extra heavy strings, going for a BEAD tuning (EAD half a step down)

Call me fickle,if you want to,but I managed to get my 2009 L2000,back from a great TBer! Tried to match the head stock,with the body,unsuccessfully? Decided to sell the neck,and was able to locate,another neck,on here. TBer,had replaced the neck,on his L2000,with a fretless Moses graphite neck,so was able to buy his original neck,for mine. Actually a nicer neck,than the one I tried to match with the Walnut satin body. Oh well lesson learned,if you are not experienced in refinishing head stocks. Love the new neck,and feels,and plays great. Just installed,new set of Ernie Ball roundwound slinkies,and set it up,and intonation looks good.
So here is my 2009 L2000,with the new neck.

I am not the tech setup master, but I really don't want to have to deal with micro tilt etc...... do they ever get loose if I did take to my luthier to get setup and leave it? Then just truss rod adjustments I can handle myself?

Don't be scared by the 3 bolt, I do not think they are particularly any inferior to the 6 bolt neck.
Some people will give you horror stories I am sure for both necks, but all I can say is my ASATs are 3 bolt, my L1500 is a 6 bolt, all second hand with one or 2 owners who were careful, silver one did a transatlantic flight, ASATs from the 90's, other early 2000s
Straight as you like, no issues, I think you'll love it. of course when you mess with set and neck it's saddles, nuts etc. All in one shot.

The only thing that should scare you is the power of the MFD!
Confirmed. My 2004 ASAT Bass (body dated NOV-3-2004) was still with a 3-bolt neck plate (as is my 1999 SB-2).
The six-bolt design without a neck plate started in 1999 on some models, and was progressively expanded to the whole bass line (excl. the JB).
