Where did you get the work done and how much did it cost? My 83 L1k needs the board planed too.
If you don't find anyone local and are willing to ship it off, I cannot say enough good things about Gary Brawer in San Francisco. He has a Plek machine in house. He can make your bass play the best it can possibly play. I thought my EBMM Sterling and my SB-2 both played well, but after he plek'ed them (they both needed it) and set them up, they were at a whole new level of low action.

I'm loving my new JB. It's a very fine example of what a good Jazz Bass should play and sound like. I'm liking it so much that I'm considering picking up an LB-100.
I'm thinking:
Himalayan Blue, Quarter Sawn Neck, Birdseye Maple fingerboard, face dots removed, matching headstock, mint guard.

my friend andrew did it for below 300, it started as a refret, renut, and proceeded into a replaning,
he plays in fancy space people and farflung, so he's really good with setting/repairing stuff for maximum tone and playability

That looks fantastic! Kudos for going with this vs one of the salmon/coral colors you were considering.

Beautiful! The MJ must be a killer active J-Bass; The M-series pre-amp does such a great job on my M2K; I can safely assume that combined with the new G&L J-pups it's a big WIN!
Thanks! Ya it's an excellent bass. The pickups are dual coil, but still have good sizzle. G&L did a spectacular job on the MJ-4. Can't wait to get my paws on a M-2000, just looking for a light weight specimen.
The "bad news" is that when they debut the MJ-5 I'll probably be gassing for that too!

There could be some serious concerns at Suhr/Sadosky/Lull etc
G&L owners... if I were to want to get my bass refinished, how would you go about it? Contact a dealer or contact G&L directly? I was under the impression that G&L didn't deal directly with customers.
For refinishing, I would definitely NOT try to get it done by G&L. I doubt they even do that, anyway.
I would contact Pat Wilkins or Marty Bell. You can google them. They both have excellent credentials and do some awesome paint jobs.
I've even seen jobs where Pat Wilkins cut the top of a body off and laminated on a nice piece of exotic wood, then painted it for the customer. So, transformed a plain, solid color bass into a flamed maple top or whatever, with a nice translucent or burst finish.
