the short answer is toward the G, but, if is just 2 strings, I think that may not be the problem. It is possible the neck could warped. I suggest you call G&L and talk to them.

Problem solved. I was turning in wrong direction. Adjusted the saddles a little as well.

Question on the JB that's coming...I see it's a 4-bolt neck joint, yet my 2015 SB-2 is a 6-bolt joint. Any idea why this is?

I think only Tributes were made with 4 bolt necks, are you expecting a Tribute or a USA JB-2?

[Edit] Oops - I read JB-2, not JB. Those have the 4 bolt neckplate.

When the JB was released, I read that G&L went with a 20 fret neck and four-bolt neck joint because it contributed to a more vintage tone. If that's true, I wonder why they didn't take the same approach with the LB-100. Not sure how it affects tone, but I love my JB!

G&L was into their 3-bolt necks at the time. All my G&L's have 3-bolt necks. Knowing what we all know now, their 6-bolt necks are better, and I'd take that over some throw back to the past with a 4-bolt.

I'm referring to the vintage style JB, which came out around 2008 and never had a three-bolt. I also like the six-bolt attachment, which I have on my SB-2 and M-2500, but my JB is rock solid. It feels more solid than my MIA Fender J, probably because of its quartersawn neck and the G&L bridge.

I recall reading something to that effect as well. A more "vintage" tone? What can that even mean, anyway? Sounds like marketing hype with the requisite buzz word "vintage".

Am I missing something? How can the number of frets affect tone?

I think there has been no such thing ever as a G&L Tribute JB.
All G&L JB and JB-5 are MIA with 4 bolts (no neck plate) and a 20 fret neck.
The JB-2, either Tribute or MIA, was/is different with 21 frets and 6-bolts.

Yep. It's a 1984 that I had "restored" a few years back by a guy here on TB. It was originally a tobacco sunburst with Schaler PUPs and a metal pick guard. It's much happier with MFDs and a Sonic Blue coat.

And two points to clarify, it was a 1986 and it had a plastic pick guard, not metal.

Cool info - thx! Somewhere I heard that SB stood for "student bass". It's lost to me where I heard or read it. Does anyone know if that was truly its origin?

I heard it always stood for Standard Bass.

I think this might have been my bass. I purchased it from Bass NW in 2003. They inspired G&L to build the JB-2 (or so they told me), and they acquired both of the matching blonde NAMM introduction versions. I traded it several years ago. What have I done! drool

PS: It's possible it was the other one of the two NAMM basses, as both were in the store at the same time, and pretty much identical. I'll research my records to see if I have the serial number anywhere - not that it will do any good now...

Why do this to a USA bass, possibly a NAMM one at that, when there are lots of Tribute models out there? Definitely blasphemous!
