G&L Club Part 7

So much buzzing! Im hearing this in a lot of l2000 vids. Whats the deal with this? Sounds like a $200 bass. Im a little worried bc im getting ready to order one of these. Lol

That woman doesn't play well. I don't think it is a good idea to use someone whose skills are marginal and tone is annoying to demo a product.

Tons of buzzing. When I see this many vids, it makes me think the bass just isnt very good, but then I see people here say it is so Im really torn. I do love the tone of this bass so I still want it, its just this horrendous buzzing im hearing that is worrisome.

Fast forward to the demo in this one

Don't let internet vids throw you. I've had lots of G&L's and was able to get my ideal action each time with some set-up work. Be not afraid - they're good quality instruments.

I know, Im still getting one. I know they are somewhat popular so it seems to me that they cant be BAD, otherwise word would be out about them being bad. I didnt mean they actually were bad, I was just a little concerned that maybe its possible that its tricky to get them set up right.

@CygnusZero you're not crazy, I have thought the same thing about those videos!

Well I know im not crazy lol, Im certain im hearing a lot of buzzing in a lot of l-2000 vids. And buzzing does not sound good at all on a bass, imo anyway. Maybe some people like that sound, I have no idea. Makes them sound really cheaply made, but it sounds like its probably just issues with how they are set up, since plenty here say theres have no buzzing. So I am still getting one, but I am still a little worried that it might be that its just difficult to get these basses set up well, or at least maybe a little more challenging than some other bass types.

A lot of bass demos dime the treble/tone and then play it aggressive or sloppy. Not to mention Youtube sounds pretty crappy unless you are playing it through a good speaker setup. Makes it hard to judge but fear not, the L-2000 is versatile. You can melt faces with it or you can dial it back - the switches and knobs are there to enable you to do that.

Commiserate with CyngusZ regarding poor technique and bad sounding YT vids.
Have also heard the same with amp demo vids.

Setups:
Noticed many G&L oriented sites continue to reference the original 1980s factory manual for setup.
I still use this setup as a starting point. Especially if I change string brands or gauges.

Cygnus, I don't know if it was all the options - this thing has pretty much everything except SS frets, which I passed to keep the cost down a bit. It was never explained to me though, and I know the dealer was actually invoiced almost a month ago - they just got shipping notification Friday.

Beautiful. Congrats.

Didn't know they offered 18V circuitry. How's it sound?

I only plugged it in for 5 minutes at the store, thru a little MarkBass rig they had on the floor. But it sounds GREAT and very diverse with all the switching, from full and round to scooped to bright and grindy - I LOVED the 'treble boosted' preamp mode, fits what I play. Will get my rig fired up this evening at home, then band practice tomorrow for a better idea, but I know right now this is going to immediately take #1 spot, supplanting Old Smoothie.
