Do they sent you any pix of it being built? Lots of companies do that for custom orders which is a kind of cool thing to have.
Nope. Dealer tells me they are fairly bad/uncommunicative about updating anything. I was watching G&L Instagram every day, but the bass still isn't up there - dealer also told me stuff shows up on Instagram AFTER it's been delivered to end user most often. So, no, I was totally in the dark. I started getting antsy a couple of weeks ago, and sent an email to my contact at the store, didn't hear anything so went into the store a little cheesed off only to find out he had left their employ. Left my info with another guy who promised an update, a week later nothing so I called again, and was again promised an update. This takes us into last week, whereupon I did get a call saying it was shipped.
Again, I suspect it might have been the level of customization, with the white bound neck and body + neck blocks.
That stinks, not getting any feedback while you're waiting and waiting and waiting and ....
But I'm guessing that it was mostly forgotten once you finally got it in your hands?

I just installed Schaller straplocks, then walked around the house playing for a bit. Fantastic neck size & shape for me, just a touch narrower than Old Smoothie which I find kinda wide. Very close to but ever so slightly fuller (probably due to the squared bound edges, not really BIGGER per se) than my '09 USA P.

Damn that stinks. Ive heard g&l has terrible customer service before so i have a feeling your situation isnt that unusual. I just ordered mine so im not expecting to hear anything for months.
I don't think the customer service is horrible, just antiquated. They haven't adopted to the modern age of digital communication too well. From experience, they do take care of their customers, but yeah, communication is lacking. We've just gotten to a point of expecting the luxuries of photo updates and such.
Yes thats what i meant, meaning they dont give you the same tlc when building a bass for you that you get from many other companies.
Fender custom shop doesnt do it either, and i get you are not going to get the same type of service that you get if you are building like a $20,000 alembic and they send you lots of pix of the entire process, but still, one pic of it being worked on would be nice to have. Would literally take no effort on their part to do this.
Judging from your negative attitude about G&L basses and their CS, I'll be surprised if you'll be pleased with your bass when it arrives.
In fact, it's hard to believe you've bothered ordered one at all. They're not for everyone, after all.
Who said anything about their basses? Mind your business princess. Youre doing more whining than i did so move along.
I have direct experience with custom orders placing two with Fender Custom Shop, three with G&L, two with Music Man and one with Sadowsky. When it comes to build updates, G&L is no better or worse than the others. Sadowsky has an edge as they provided photos of the body before and after paint. But, they are also a much smaller shop and the bass was a lot more customized than the other builds. Besides, would you rather have the shop spend their time building or photographing?
Here's the thing about custom orders. You should at least have some experience with the brand and a good idea as to what to expect before placing the order. Once the order is placed, you have to trust that the builder is going to use his/her experience and good judgment during the process. You also have to have confidence in the dealer that you use. There are a lot of unknowns when taking the leap, which could be fun or hair raising depending on how you look at it.

That wasn't my experience with G&L's Facebook pix. My special-ordered Comanche guitar appeared in all its Sonic Blue glory in my FB feed -- which is, of course, set to have G&L posts always appear at the top -- then didn't arrive at the dealer for a few weeks! Still, the overall time for the order wasn't that bad.
That Blackburst L-2000 is just gorgeous. I'm normally not into bursts, but that's awesome, and with the maple, matching headstock, blocks and binding...wow.
Does that one have a quartersawn neck? I'm thinking about an empress/quartersawn/maple combo for an L-2500, so I'm curious. I love the alder/quartersawn/rosewood combo on my M-2500 and JB.

Build quality and playability are blowing me away. One small example, the block inlays - nobody ever gets them perfectly square and no fill, do they? G&L didn't, but I have to have my eyeball almost touching the fretboard to see it. From a foot back and more everything looks dead square, super job.

Nice! 1.5" nut? Usually empress is visually sort of boring or plain but that one certainly isn't.
1 5/8" (1.625) so like a modern P. Wider than any of my 3 J basses, but not uncomfortably wider. #12, the stock option I believe. 9.5 radius, though it feels quite flat, and I have found I am very accurate in my fingering notes. Virtually perfect neck for my hands, spacing is much like my P, which I like, wider than my J's, which I am OK with but the longer I play bigger necks the less I like them. Narrower spacing, feels significantly so, than my Old Smoothie, which is my preference for tone but not feel, a touch wide for me but playable. I'm not as accurate or fast on it.
I know most of you guys know this if you've owned one, but the tookay sounds amazingly diverse in a band situation. Passive/ neck pup/ treble rolled back, for a nice P imitation. Both pups, turn up the treble, great rock tone. Hit the pre to bright for some hard rockers.
I didn't mess with series/parallel, not even sure what position I had it in, but it was not 'bass enhanced', I found it a touch loose or anyways too fat for my taste.
This was in a basement, fairly loud 2 guitars & PA & loud drummer, me thru an RB400-IV and. subway 115. Yeah, I love this thing.

Welcome to the fan girl club, haha! I absolutely love my L2K. It has got this growl that is unreal!! In particular when I start to dig into it hard, it just sounds like a "grunting" caveman! Have fun exploring all the possibilities!
