The set it came with were a bit too light for me so I put on a set of DR Blues and got a nicer feel. I'll leave those on for a bit but feel I'm gonna eventually end up with a set of GHS Pressurewounds like those on my Jazz Bass. The tension is a bit higher and it'll reduce some of the "clank" it get from the rounds now although a little adjustment in my technique could help that too. Playing flats has spoiled me. LOL

The B is good. As like with any bass ya gotta try a few string to find what works with it.

EB Cobalt rounds - massive bright high output plus the MFDs. Would be better if the B was a 130.

Surprisingly good and cheap the B fits with the rest of the set- Dunlop super brights.

Chrome's - the B was too thuddy.

GHS Brite Flats - really nice balance of bright and feel tension pretty even across the set.

DR low riders nickle good but a bit scooped on this.

Labella tapes which I like on other basses, not so much on Sparkle.

GHS big core stainless... Played nice clank city.

Sadowsky Blue label nickle rounds - stellar B solid thick mids good highs.

Now, Labella low tension flats - mmm good brings a different tone to the palate, lower output, but supple and woody. Not floppy, sinuous.

Overall the B is very good. It fits well with the rest of the set.

****Addendum. I play 1/2 step down at all times.

See the pictures. I also added a photo of the cavity. Does that look good? After all the cleaning the bass truly has no dents or scratches.

Looks like a brother to mine but in a two tone 'burst instead of a three tone. Nice find.

Typically yes or a set that's marked as "Long" but not all strings will work well with that body. I buy mine through bassstringsonline and Jason can always provide advice and suggestions about those that will work well and those to avoid.

FWIW the DR Pure Blues 45-130 set I put on mine worked fine.

D'Addarios are pretty standard stock strings on many Fender basses I've played and I'd say there's a good chance that's what may have been on mine when I got it. I also had them on a new PBass I got awhile back.

Not the right feel for me but they seemed to sound OK. I use D'Addario nickel wound on my Teles but I have other preferences when it comes to bass strings. I'm thinking GHS Pressurewounds or Balanced Nickels might work really nice on these basses as I tend to favor a mellower round wound. But you may favor something else.

Like I said... congrats. It does look beautiful now. Action is preference, but you're looking at the relief from the right angle, so good for you. As for the cavity, I make it a point to look away whenever someone advertises a picture of their cavity.

That was a primary factor in my walking away from 5ers 20 years ago. They still had a lot to perfect back then... especially on the $300 ones, which was all I could afford.

I'm also not much of a 5-string guy anymore. Also, the strings I use and how I set up my basses and how I play is so different to what I tend to see on here.

If I were to get another 5'er, it would be a G&L.

It's interesting to hear you say that. I often have little to offer on sound discussions here, because my stings/ set up and sound is so far and away from what most of us seem to prefer. I have yet to hear a G&L demo with 16th note punk and stainless strings. I gave up watching them so long ago.

Long, long ago I hungered for an ASAT Special Tele but just like with my basses I always fell back into my Fender comfort zone mostly because I could easily modify them at will and by God I have. Every single one. Even my CS Nocaster got a neck swap shortly after birth. LOL

Then two years ago I found a great deal on a Tribute ASAT Special from a dealer I'd bought from before. It was priced right and in mint condition with a gig bag. So now I had to learn how to modify a G&L right? Nope. Seems Leo had beaten me to it. Couldn't find a damn thing I would change except the end pins to elliptical like my others.

That got me appreciating just how nice G&Ls were especially with the improvements to the bridge and the MFD pickups. No, it's not quite a Tele which is good. I wanted something like a Tele but not quite a Tele and it is that.

Then about a year ago a good friend with a couple of L2000s was prodding me to try one and since I was in the market for a 5 string and a dealer he recommended had a nice L2500 Tribute for sale with a hard case I took the plunge. That's it in my avatar and in other photos I've posted previously. Got a great deal and I love the bass.

My Fenders don't seem to mind. After all they're kissin' cousins right. And I'm glad to have two more of Leo's gifts to musicians in my herd.

I didn't know that Trib ASAT's existed! I too kept my Fenders, and other than the highly collectible ones, I still play them in less than desirable venues, because I won't cry if one gets beat up... Where's with the G&L's I'd have to go for therapy. Speaking of... @Mammoth_Bass any luck with tooth paste?
