That is exactly how I run! Those settings = my "always on" clean sound into my SVT 4 Pro

I find that channel B on its own sounds a bit thin or brittle with little warmth.

I agree 100% on that I'm not a big fan of Channel B on its own.

I really like using Cold Fusion!

Here, after spending more than a month, earlier this year, adjusting this knob or that level or the other doohickey to get the sound that I was hearing in my head, are my 'set and forget' settings:

I have pedal for each 'level' of drive/ fuzz/ distortion that I use. Going from least to most harsh:

• LeBass, Channel B only which gives me a thin, crisp bit of crunch,
  
• Cold Fusion for a nice, thick, growly OD
• Way Huge Pork Loin for a more aggressive OD
• Violet Menace for full on fuzz
• MXR Fullbore Metal for balls out distortion.

I'll let you know what happens tonight! I plan on using it both in front of the V4B, and then also trying it as a preamp bypass to see what I prefer.

Wow! G&L, Le Bass, and Ampeg. You might want to check with your mom if you were adopted, as I'm fairly certain we are separated twins. Apologies in advance if you are actually adopted and that joke was in bad taste

And wow, what a difference a bass makes. I got the SB-1 in a couple of hours ago (pics soon), and the difference between the JB2 and SB1 is massive. I know a large part of that is the split MFD, but it took that side by side to realize just how much hotter the MFD really is. Going from a warm, clean-ish tone on the JB-2 to massive, in your face, meaty drive with the SB-1. I love it! I wonder how much will change once I throw the chromes on the SB-1, as I had originally planned to.

I'll let you know how it goes tonight. Given that I already love the sound of the V4B and the Le Bass, I can't imagine being disappointed in any way. The tricky part will simply be dialing in the right amount of everything for an L2K.

I can now independently confirm this. Sure, the strings aren't broken in yet, but man, it sure sounds much thicker and warmer than the stock roundwounds. I'd be lying if I said that reading this thread didn't have something to do with my seemingly perfect string choice

I'll let you know how it goes tonight. Given that I already love the sound of the V4B and the Le Bass, I can't imagine being disappointed in any way. The tricky part will simply be dialing in the right amount of everything for an L2K.

Once I got the LeBass sound dialed in through my headphones (that was a very lengthy process) (I cycled through several basses during this process not to get each bass sounding correctly through the LeBass but to get the best overall sound from the LeBass. THEN I began the exercise of trying to find the 'correct' settings on each bass to best support the overall rig and I found something. I didn't have to dial anything in on the basses themselves. Once the overall sound that I wanted was achieved in my signal chain (minus the instrument), each instrument tweaks and colors the tone with its own natural sound and gives me the different voices that I need/ expect from each. Of course, with a versatile tool like the L2k/ L2.5k, the tonal spectrum is huge, compared to a simple Pbass with only V/T controls. But I'd recommend at least trying the approach of orking to get the overall rig sounding the way you want, agnostic of the individual instrument, then add in the variety of instruments in your stable. I found that it becomes much easier to tweak things when starting at a fairly common baseline tone that spans as many of your use cases as possible.

Nope. 41 here, so I guess maybe cousins? And ouch, I hope I didn't go too personal. Wouldn't be my first case of foot-in-mouth disease.

As far as the Le Bass, that sounds like a reasonable approach. Why own different basses if I'm trying to get the exact same tone from all of them? I'll probably start with your settings first as it sounds like you and I have similar goals for the pedal, and then tweak it to taste. I wouldn't have naturally gone for the cut mids you have on your settings, but I'd like to see how that sits in my band mix. I only have two songs that require any degree of filth in the overdrive, and I had been using the Darkglass B7K model on my HX Effects. I already thought that digital overdrive sounded great, so I can't wait to hear what real tube grit sounds like.

Oh, and I meant to ask, how much mileage do you get out of that Wall of Sound plug-in it comes with, assuming you record at home. So far, I really like the Ampeg 8x10 model they have, but I was curious about any of the "boutique" stuff they offer. I see they have a model for my Orange 1x15, so I could see paying for that down the road. as I like to try and get as close to my rig tone as possible when recording quietly at night.

I just spent an hour cleaning her up. She was dirty. My white rag is now brown lol. But under all that dirt was true beauty. She definitely needs a good setup and the action lowered. See the pictures. I also added a photo of the cavity. Does that look good? After all the cleaning the bass truly has no dents or scratches.

I have new respect for Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy). I just learned The Boys are Back in Town for a cover band I'm playing with. It sounds deceptively simple, but there's some good stuff going on there! Oh, and I was playing it tonight on my '84 G&L SB-2 in Bahama Blue.

I'm the wrong guy to ask. The only L-2500 I played was a used tribby in GC about 10 years ago and don't remember much else.
I'm also not much of a 5-string guy anymore. Also, the strings I use and how I set up my basses and how I play is so different to what I tend to see on here.

If I were to get another 5'er, it would be a G&L.

In all my time on TB, I don't ever recall seeing this club so active.

Nice to see G&L and Leo get the recognition deserved from what appears to be a very loyal bunch of players.

Long, long ago I hungered for an ASAT Special Tele but just like with my basses I always fell back into my Fender comfort zone mostly because I could easily modify them at will and by God I have. Every single one. Even my CS Nocaster got a neck swap shortly after birth. LOL

Then two years ago I found a great deal on a Tribute ASAT Special from a dealer I'd bought from before. It was priced right and in mint condition with a gig bag. So now I had to learn how to modify a G&L right? Nope. Seems Leo had beaten me to it. Couldn't find a damn thing I would change except the end pins to elliptical like my others.

That got me appreciating just how nice G&Ls were especially with the improvements to the bridge and the MFD pickups. No, it's not quite a Tele which is good. I wanted something like a Tele but not quite a Tele and it is that.

Then about a year ago a good friend with a couple of L2000s was prodding me to try one and since I was in the market for a 5 string and a dealer he recommended had a nice L2500 Tribute for sale with a hard case I took the plunge. That's it in my avatar and in other photos I've posted previously. Got a great deal and I love the bass.

My Fenders don't seem to mind. After all they're kissin' cousins right. And I'm glad to have two more of Leo's gifts to musicians in my herd.

How are the low B's on the L2500's?

Not bad at all and I would credit both the bridge and pickups with that to a degree. The clarity is there.

The set it came with were a bit too light for me so I put on a set of DR Blues and got a nicer feel. I'll leave those on for a bit but feel I'm gonna eventually end up with a set of GHS Pressurewounds like those on my Jazz Bass. The tension is a bit higher and it'll reduce some of the "clank" it get from the rounds now although a little adjustment in my technique could help that too. Playing flats has spoiled me. LOL
