Not a fan of "clangy" being part of my tone profile. I have used the swing bass 66 on a Jazz bass before. They went dead super fast. But they were decent strings.

No worries! I usually get a decent life span out of a set, but I have heard a lot of people say they go dead fast. Maybe it's an individual-result kind of thing. I've also had good luck with DR nickel Lo-Riders. Less clangy/clacky, and great tone to boot.
They are not only bright, they are HIGH output and stay bright for a long time. For me they were too much of a good thing on my L2500. But great on my Dolphin.
I put GHS Balanced Nickels on my new LB-100 and am very happy with them. They ring like church bells and have a very strong fundamental - excellent for a P (IMHO).
Nice! I have a set on order and am looking forward to trying them out. Do you have any experience with DR Pure Blues by way of comparison?
No, I haven't used them. I've been playing GHS Presurewounds for the last few years but wanted a less aggressive sounding string. The Bananced Nickels are it!
Wow! I always admired G&L basses from afar, but had never laid my hands on one until yesterday ... and here is my redburst L2000 
I believe it's a 2005 and was well taken care of - it came with the original tags and un-used case sticker even! I was specifically looking for a bass with a p-bass like nut width and "flatter than 9.5"" radius. It seems to me that most stock 4-string basses with a flatter radius have a 1.5" nut width (which I can live with, but I do prefer a beefier neck).
Was happy to discover the L2000 listed exactly the specs I was looking for on their website. However, after agreeing to meet the seller, I realized many of these basses on the current market have 1.5" width / 9.5" radius necks. Fortunately for me, this one has my desired 1.75" nut and 12" radius (Edit: 1.6875" nut, 12" radius. Tribute is 1.75", and that was the web page I was looking at by mistake before I bought my G&L. I believe mine is a custom ordered neck that just fortuitously fell into my path)!
The seller had it setup like dream with brand new right out of the package GHS Boomers (DR High Beams are my choice after years of searching, but the Boomers are staying on until they wear out ... nice strings).
I obviously don't have to break down the range of tones of the bass to this group. Suffice to say there's nothing it can't do. For my purposes, the switches will mostly be set to both pickups, parallel and passive. Even with that, the tone controls provide so many nice tone options. Everything else us just a bonus.
Now time for coffee and a day of playing Happy day ...

These are my favorite strings and I have them on my LB! Although I just put MFD p pups in my LB so they might be a bit too bright for that purpose.... anyways I recommend them

I have some Boomers on my Redburst. On a fluke I put some GHS Precision flats on my BABE L2K and was amazed--and mad I didn't do this years ago!
Well decided to get the Asat refretted,no one seem to be interested in it being fretless,and I decided to get it refretted ,and enjoy for what I bought for in the first place! Local luthier here already gave me an estimate,and it seemed reasonable to me,from what others I have checked. Plan on keeping it,if I manage to move the L2000.
About 4 weeks ago I said I had purchased a G&L M2000 GTB and liked it so much that I was going to look for an M2000 GTS to go along with it. Well....

7.8lbs of JB, Empress wood. Thinking I like her better nude... /blush
Personally I don't like the unfinished look of the J-plate without the pickguard. Cream (white?) looks nice; black's too dark for that pretty burst.
Recently picked up my first G&L (USA SB-2T) have had it a few weeks... making friends with my Fenders... so far- so good!

That sweet SB body shape really stands out, eh? It'll be really interesting to see how you find it compares with your various P-basses.
Im a standard Slinky round useru but have also used Cobalt rounds. The tone of Cobalts is definitely bright but not in a clanky way. It really is a great tone that the Cobalts have, my only dislike of this string is when I use them and sweat on them they produce a metallic oxide type smell that I didn't like.
Leave the pickguard off. Nude is natural!
Covering up pretty wood with plastic is a sin most unforgivable in this life and the next. 
Here she is between strings. The grain is interesting to my eye.
