G&L Club Part 7

The two caps are attached to the series/single/parallel switch & they're 100 nanoFarads (0.1 uF). That's what the 104 means, 10 picoFarads (0.000000000010) with the decimal point moved right 4 spaces.

i rekon the rest of the diagram may be correct for mine (L-2000 series-e), i do see 2 green chiklet caps in proper spot on the tptt ser-par switch.. i looked at the connections and so far it appears to right. suppose i will have to ohm out the wires next to see if one in broken internally.. uggghhh

seems like one side of the bridge pup may be open, in order for it to cause problem i am having, but when testing between the br pup yellow to black; it reads zero ohms when ser-par sw is in series mode.. again.. ughhhh and 4.39k in parallel mode..
Does anyone know what the approx resistance should be yellow to black,
on stock L2000 mfd br humbucker pup? White to Yellow reads approximately 12.8k now that i disconnected the yellow from ser-par sw. Which lead is supposed to be the tap?
may need the br pup rebuilt, i suppose!

Yesterday was G&L Basket Case Day. Just got this 1st gen SB2 from a fellow Arizonan. I put her together and the electronics work fine. Took some struggling to set up the neck and I thought it would take a while for it to respond, wondering just how well. The neck settled in overnight, now she's daddy's little girl. She was obviously loved hard and put away wet for years. I'd leave her as a shipwrecked relic but I'm being tempted by a mermaid singing from green surf whose voice is difficult to resist.

Now if someone would trade me a fretless neck she'd make a great slippery mate for my 1st gen SB1.

Thanks Chef! I love bass history and my deceased mom's initials are JP. Condition-wise this is the polar opposite of my 1st gen SB1 which looks like someone kept it under their bed in it's case for 35 years. The current neck is well-used but no twists or ski jump- I'm flabbergasted that it behaved and set right in overnight. The guy I got it from here in AZ has restored a bunch of old G&L basses. He made a new hog body for the one below- remember when it was on sale and a bunch of us were dis-cussing it? His before & after pic.

Awesome project! I've got an identical SB-2. When I bought it, the seller inclued the original defretted neck. I might have to throw it on to see how it plays. I've never had it on.

You should definitely try that. Is the de-fretted one maple or rosewood?

Referring to this tuner weight thread:
Tuning Peg Weight

I posted the following there:
"I'm guessing the weight for the G&L tuner of 95 grams is not for the G&L Ultralite tuners but the older tuners. True? Anyone know the weight on the ultralights? I've got an LB with an empress body that is 7.4 lbs and has a little neck dive. I'm wondering how much weight I could save with lighter tuners."
Anyone here know or tried this?

G&L stamped Ultralites weigh 65gm (2.29oz) each.

Compared to generic Chinese tuners (not from a Tribute but look identical) 82gm (3oz) each.

Both these are just the tuner without ferrule or screws.

That's the old style tuner weight and 95 grams is on the heavier side. The ones I just changed out were 90 grams. Even at 90 grams each the change made a noticeable difference and that was on a 4 string. In your case I think that's preferable to adding some weight in the control panel but that's a free try. For balance you'd need to add more weight on the body end than you'd need to remove from the headstock.

That de-fret is criminal but so is the truss rod breaking through the board. If it hadn't been de-fretted it would have made a nice handle for the garage beer fridge. Nice honest wear on that body, if mine looked that nice I'd leave it.
