G&L Club Part 7

View attachment 3231259 Been looking for another G&L with body binding, and while browsing around found this L2000 Cherry burst with binding,so should be here next week sometime? Shipping to me this coming Monday. It has an SB2 neck on the L2000 body? I decided to go with it anyway. Sometimes I regret the neck issues, when I do things like this. Probably be hard to match the L2000 body up with View attachment 3231255 View attachment 3231256 View attachment 3231257 another L2000 neck? Anyway here is pictures of previous owner. Looks pretty decent, just one ding lower body,by control knobs, and input jack.

I'm both glad and sad you picked that one up. For the price it was tempting...

Thanks, right now it is pending? Seller refunded me,and said one of the switches not working? Told him was still interested, switch could be simple fix. Appreciated his honesty, and full disclosure. We will wait and see what his answer is? Update, just talked to seller, told him I would accept the L2000,as is,so agreed to ship it out Monday. Whoopee!!

Now that I own a G&L, I can really understand the addiction :)
Damn!! Put a G&L in every teenage's hands and he won't be doing any drugs!!

Congrats!

My L-2500 is also cherryburst and maple (I'm pretty sure you've commented on pictures before) and I think it's a beauty. But it doesn't have the binding that this one does. That's a really nice touch, very classy!

We're lucky that we have a local dealer offering the company's line at comparable prices to the States, unlike what you see with other brands at other stores in the country.
I think the steady flow of G&L basses into the country is a testament to more and more people 'catching up' on what fantastic instruments they are.

Yes,I have commented on the pictures before, and have a weakness, for cherryburst especially with the binding!

I posted this question in the luthiers corner, to no avail. I figured someone here must know the answer.

Ok, Are the 3 bolt pockets, and the 6 bolt pockets the same?

I have access to a 3 bolt L2000 body. I have access to a 6 bolt neck. Will this work? Is this heresy? I figure to refill the 3 bolt holes, and redrill for the 6 bolts. Advice?

Actually the neck you are referring is a three bolt fretless neck, and he has a 6bolt neck on the three bolt body if you follow what I am trying to say. According to what he was telling me about the L2000 has holes for three,or 6 bolt neck,so I would say the pockets are the same.

A 6 bolt neck is about 1/4" longer than a 3 bolt, so a little sanding would be needed for proper scale length if you're doing a 6 bolt neck on a 3 bolt body.

Edit to say that the 1/4" that I mention is a rough guestimation. It is longer, but I'd need to measure to be sure how much longer.

It's 3/8". With a 6 bolt neck on a 3 bolt G&L the intonation will be way off and 3/8" is more than "a little sanding".

Giving a heads up here for those of you that shop G&L used at Guitar Center. Both of these are going back today with neck issues and knowing GC they will relist them. The metallic green L-2000 is a 2018 with a broken truss rod. Now I know why it returned after being sold a few weeks back. For the price I'm tempted to keep it and have G&L replace the neck under warranty.

The L-5000 has some ski jump that will most likely get worse over time as the tilt adjustment was tweeked hard and the saddles were maxed. I was able to get it playable with medium action. It has a second pickup installed where the poles get more out of line as you travel from B to G. Most likely this is non-factory- the rout is decent, the soldering messy. While it's a great pickup, adding the second one is a total waste in this bass. Terrible tone although it might be somewhat improved with a blend or second volume. IMO, a wasted vintage bass.

I read posts in the past where G&L repaired instruments to subsequent owners. Whether true or not, currently they will not repair an instrument unless you are the original owner. As the 2018 K2K had a slight bow in the neck a previous owner must have broken off the welded on truss rod nut in an attempt to correct the issue. While something like that may not be covered, not providing a transferable warranty for a new instrument is IMO the main reason resale value plummets when we resell one that doesn't meet our needs. With this one, another few years old G&L of mine developing a neck issue and reading/viewing recent examples of shoddy workmanship on US models that should have been QC'd at the factory, I don't trust G&L enough to order a new instrument from them.

Oh, dang! If I remember, there were some prototypes released early on that featured the neck pickup closer to the neck, just like this one. I believe is was moved closer to the bridge for production for aesthetic reasons. Given the lack of visible serial number, this was probably one of those.
Similar to that prototype L2K with "Sabre" pickup positions in the 1980 catalog, instead of the more "P/J" they decided on.
