The sound is very "rich" in my opinion. The neck pickup is so punchy and fat with that hollow grind, i use the back pickup to tame it a little.
It looks beautiful. I have the black straplocks and i think it adds up to the striking looks of this bass.

I have noticed that many of the latest posts in this G&L thread focus on SBs and LBs. That's good!

No, it's not the absolute color that matters (I don't mind the dark red edges), it's more the transition and color ratio. I don't like the sudden transition - especially if it's a big red spot in the middle with black edges. I like that JB2 since it has a smooth transition (plus the binding looks kickass).

I agree with you, Strost.
some bursts are too sudden of a transition from red/yellow/brown/whatever to the black edges. that's one thing that makes me hesitant to order a G&L with a burst finish. some are really well done, and others look as bad as import budget basses.

This is the first time I see a G&L with an empress wood body (on ebay). Fender and others have used that wood for some time now. Very light wood indeed, and excellent tonewood.

I think they did another model too with that wood. I had actually never heard of it. I think it was just a one, or two or three off that they did with wood they had. I don't know if you can order it as part of regular options.

I'm still waiting for them to offer Mahogany. They do for at least one of the guitar models.

Still not sure when my LB-100 will be here. Portland Percussion sent me the tracking info yesterday, but it still just shows that a label has been created but not picked up. They told me it was created after the pickup on Tuesday, but it still hasn't updated yet (assuming that it was picked up today). I know Fedex can sometimes be fickle with when their system updates. It's a one day trip so I should expect it Friday provided it did get picked up today.

These are very attractive. Would these 4 bolt G&L Tribute necks work with standard Fender Bodies? They are both 34 scale. Anything I am missing?

These G&L Tribute bass necks are 21 frets. While Fender Standard bass necks (MIM and USA, J and P) have 20 frets. This looks like the start of a problem...

Better go to good aftermarket Fender-licensed necks : Warmoth, Mighty Mite, Allparts, but it's quite more than $30!

The LB-100 was delayed due to a snow storm that hit us on Wednesday, so it will be going out today and I'll have it tomorrow.

While I was looking at pictures, I noticed a possible ding above the 12th fret inlay on the edge of the board. I talked to them and they said it's just a natural wood imperfection, definitely not a ding or dent. I've had some G&L rosewood boards that have been tighter or more open grained than others, so that's probably just what this is and it looks a lot worse under the 800W lights they use. What do you guys think?

Either way, there's a return period, so if it bugs me I can do something about it. But hopefully I don't feel the need to.

Thanks Gentlemen. I have a Tribby M2000 and love it, especially the neck. No wussie jazz sized necks for me! They have a finish that I love and haven't seen on other basses. It seems just a hair smoother than other satin finished necks. I'm trying to build an ultra light active jazz and have a 3 1/2 pound body and want to pair it with a bigger neck, at least P sized. I do like the Mighty Mite necks though, they are nice and will pair nicely. I'm going for under 7.5 pounds, fully active. The MM necks are about 1.7 pounds, which leaves me about 2 pounds for hardware. Anyway, the Tribby neck probably weighs more, but I'd deal with it for the finish and the cost, although more chance of neck dive I guess.

I do love me some G&L, maybe I should join the club. I've been lurking for a little while.
