Guys either dissuade me or enable me...
I have a 1st Gen Yamaha TRB (JJ, MIJ, non-piezo). Sweet bass, just not my thing tone wise.
Had a guy offer to trade a '90' US L2000. My issue - I already have 2 x L2000! I don't really need another. But I'm thinking it's still a beneficial trade - even if I don't find a use for a 3rd L2000 it's still worth more than the Yammie yeah? Thoughts?

Sure you'd be adding to what you already have, but would it get used more than the Yammie?

I would probably take the trade, personally, knowing I'd use it more than the Yammie, but I'd be cautious that he's not willing to trade down because of some issue with the bass (other than that it's just not for him).

You got that right! They have the only Sunburst I actually love--and I can't stand them and don't get why other do. Blue, red, blackburst is another matter entirely.

I wish I knew. I'm at least the second owner and I never got any of the papers with it. At the time I bought it, I didn't know you got a CoA / build sheet when you bought a new G&L so I didn't know to ask about it.

I do know I love how it plays, sounds, and looks, though. It's both beauty and beast all rolled into one.

Ah well Sparkle is happy with it's friends at this time. Although a grown male adult talking about Sparkle and Dolphins out of context might seem a Tad strange.

I have the same reaction every time you post pictures of that bass!

It remains my #1, I and my bandmates both love it. If the neck was 1/16" smaller, or even just rounded some at the corners, I would call it perfect. A very bright bass, very crisp and clear. Works very well for my ham handed hard rock picking approach, with diversity in the knobs and switching to tone it down as needed. Extremely punchy, thru my GK. Won't be long until it's showing battle scars, pick wear etc. Don't care, honest wear is fine with me.

Contact them. They have all the original serial number books going back to when G&L started. We looked up my buddy's 1980 L1000, and they had it right there in the book.

Yep, I know for sure mine's a beauty, and probably more my speed. I'm solidly in the pro-burst camp, as my current bass collection shows:

Doesn't mean I wouldn't consider giving a different finish a chance someday.


I will say the L-2500 looks even prettier since I replaced the black knobs with chrome. I'll have to take some new pictures.

Yeah,it's a close-grain wood,for sure. At first i thought it might be mahogany,but i don't know if GL ever used mahogany in their builds.
