Yep mahogany was available in the 80's 90s but most often red mahogany (honduran)
as opposed to the Korina variety, also used.

They're both pretty but that red mahogany ... WOW!
Naw, we were there at the factory. I have a good friend that works with them, so we were doing the tour. But I'd suggest you start with emailing them or try messaging them on the G&L Facebook page.
I know they've been using empress as the main go to for a lighter weight wood for a while, but okoume, monkey pod, mahogany have all been used.
Grain looks like my L2000's...swamp ash.

Hey all,
I recently picked up this tribute l2000 and I like it a lot.
My favorite setting is passive, both pickups, series. For the life of me I can't get a usable tone (for me anyways) out of the existing preamp, so I am going to switch it out.
I have a darkglass tone capsule lying around and I thought i'd give it (the capsule) a 2nd chance as my first experiment in my Ric didn't end well for it.
So, here is my wiring idea/thoughts.
The volume will become a stacked volume blend so I can adjust the volume of both pickups. I really want that flexibility.
The DG is a three band preamp, so the middle knob becomes the bass knob.
The last knob is a stacked lo/hi mids knob.
The pickup selector switch will become a neck pickup north coil/humbucker(series)/south coil switch.
The series/parallel switch becomes the same for the bridge pickup.
The preamp on/off stays the same, but no treble boost.
Since I am adding the ability to split the coils, parallel mode kinda becomes useless to me, and I don't like the sound of that pickup in parallel anyways...
Anyhow, I would appreciate any insight/flaws/suggestions you have on my idea.

Nice. Many just remove the battery which is what I did. There are a ton of usable sounds without one and the output is plenty hot. But if you're looking for a fun project then I look forward to hearing how it turns out!Hey all,

The preamp in these basses is really just there to help against signal loss with long cable runs, with the added ability of a treble boost setting.
The bass and treble controls are both passive cut only controls. So both full on is "flat"
Some approach this by turning the B/T controls all the way down, and then gradually adding them in. Some do the opposite.
Another approach, is to dial it back on the volume control, instead of diming it like most people.
Setting both B/T at the halfway point can give you a nice midway point to work from.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
These basses are best approached as a passive bass.
Absolutely correct—and that's distinctive when compared to the all-active-all-the-time M-series.

I have to admit, I'm tempted to sell my Tone Capsule and go for a Haz Clone and go that route...
