I had Chromes on a L-1500 for a while. Sounded great.
I've just put a set of chromes on my 1982 L1000 - sounds good (never used flats before)
Tone capsule up for sale and going with the Haz Clone. I'll report back once I get the clone and get the courage to tackle the wiring...
well, i dropped my L2K tribby off today for fret level and crown. it could take a couple of weeks, but I'm in no rush.
Once i get it it back, I'm going to gut the electronics, not the MFD's mind you, and install my spector clone preamp by @BaZZZZZ.
I'm going to change the switches to do north/humbucker/south for each, then the last switch to be preamp bypass.
I'll report back once I actually start it all...
I put some Fender flats on my L2K replacing the Black Beauties I usually string it up with.
Took me a few days to get the relief where I wanted it but now it's just how I like it.
I don't like the flats in passive as much as I do with the BB's but with the activated pre.. perfection!

I'm really happy with the Timbre/Tone of my Trib 25k, but I'm not keen on PU switches or 'blend' controls. Down the track a bit I'd like to put in stacked V/V, and change the PU switch to another coil split switch to have one for each PU.
I can't make up my mind about wether to make them parallel/series/single or north single/series/south single though.
To my old worn out ears theres not a whole lot if difference between parallel and single and I was thinking with the single/series/single I would have more choices than Para/series.
Has anyone got any experience of
V/V>and two single/series/single switches?

For me, I read that parallel sounds similar to single coil, so I figured i would go series since I am splitting the coils anyways. I like series sound better anyways. I have always fought the lack of volume control per pickup so I'll be wiring mine V/V/Stacked Pot Treble and bass.

For me I think Singles are richer, I'm coming from a Jazz Dlxe 5 so an evolution of my tone retaining a link would feel nice too : )

Yep, these are remarkable and underappreciated strings. That's ok, keeps the price reasonable
.I have GHS PW's on my L-1500, which arguably sounds Kiloton-like. They have a great clarity and presence. The slight taming of the high mids vs. rounds works well with the 1500/K-ton pickup position, IMO. I also like the way the lows work, though not so different from rounds, I don't think. Mine have been on for quite a while now and are demonstrating long working life. Worth a try, I'd say.
I don't, but I was going to use a diagram like this to wire up the pickups for splitting.

Well my G&L NBD finally happened last Thursday! Picked up my brand new M-2500. I had been itching to chat about it, those of you who follow G&L on FB or Instagram may have seen the mid build pics they posted a few weeks back, but decided to hold my breath till I got it. I'm very lucky as I was able to get little extra attention on some of the options. Definitely inspires me to get my playing up to worthiness of such a fine instrument!

It's the Blonde color option on swamp ash, but I asked for more of the grain to show through so they did a lighter than usual application of the color. The fingerboard is Caribbean Rosewood, there too I asked for a lighter shade with some figuring. Quarter sawn maple neck and they found a nice piece with some ghost flame to it, with the standard satin finish, but I ordered the gloss headstock face.
I finally got my blonde on a Caribbean beach!

I unleashed my vintage fretless L1000 at practice for the first time yesterday. There were a couple of quiet acknowledgements of the nice tone.
Then i flicked the OMG switch. Oh that was fun. And it made me realise i have been a bit timid with the tone controls on my usual practice bass - an L2000 with Aguilar pre. I am gonna crank the bass and treble on that one next rehearsal.

Speaking of fretless and performing the OMG Miracle for ones bandmates. New addition here at the Sonoran Desert Crematory. December 1980 L1K fretless. Very little playwear, a stellar-carved neck, 8 1/2 lbs. & the OHSC looks like new. She was already on the G&L Registry as the oldest fretless listed. This ones switch goes to OMFG.

Nice! I'm curious about the dating. Have you taken the neck off? If so what's the date. I have an L1000 fretless neck with a 1980 date on it. Ours might be some of the first. I can check the date if you're interested.
The seller posted pics of the dates. Neck is Dec 18, body is Dec 8. By the Registry looks like they made a handful of fretless basses in December '80. Let me know if you want to sell the neck, I've got an El Toro body.
