G&L Club Part 7

Thanks!

I feel really lucky to have it. I remember seeing the previous owner first put it up for sale and drooling over it. But at that time we had just put a lot of money into our house, so I wasn't eager to buy a new toy. For some reason it didn't sell quickly enough and he took it off the market, so opportunity lost. Then, a few years later, the seller decided to go all six-strings and put it back up for sale and I just happened to see it pop back up. I contacted him right away and found out he lives a few miles from where our son was going to college. I was going to be going down to pick up our son soon after that for spring break, so he agreed to me putting down a deposit to hold it until I got down there to buy it in person. We saved the trouble and expense of shipping it, I met a great TB'er, and I got a great bass.

If there's an unfortunate part to the story, it's that the silver metal flake L-2500 that @/\/\3phist0 now has went up for sale right after I bought mine, so I missed out on that opportunity. But I absolutely love mine and the cherryburst is right in line with the kind of basses I love anyway (bursts!). Plus, Sparkle went to a deserving new home, although that hasn't stopped me from drooling excessively every time he posts a picture - or even just mentions her. :D

Unfortunately I don't see that ever happening. I don't know if this is true, but I've read that G&L made prototypes for the JB-2: a couple had the standard Jazz pickups they used, the others had the old SB-2/Lynx MFDs. Story goes that nearly everyone who tried the prototypes preferred the Jazz pickups.
If it's true I wonder where the MFD equipped JB-2 prototypes ended up.

Is that a set of lynx mfd's in that blue bass?
Never seen those pups before..

I feel like if Paulo hasn't owned one at some point, it probably doesn't exist :D

But I have seen a couple of lefty Interceptors floating around in the last year or so, and Paulo still has one I believe.

I own the other Interceptor and I recently have a Lynx. I could combine the two for an El Toro-ish, but I would not do that. I've thought about contacting the Custom Shop about an El Toro.

Or can you imagine.....a five string El Toro, Black and Maple with matching headstock?! G&L needs to open up the options!

The SB-2 single coils are longer than the El Toro humbuckers.

Yeah I like Cherryburst too. G&L does a nice job on theirs. Your post reminds me of a few that I've been fortunate to have had. And an excuse to post pics!

The one in the last picture with the black pickguard. Send it to me. It should be mine.

Ha, I regret letting that one go. I swore if it ever popped up for sale again I'd buy it back. Then several years ago it did, on ebay for $650. But the listing was local pickup only, 2000 miles away. More recently, I saw it on Reverb for ~$1200 with a string damping gizmo on it. Couldn't bring myself to pay twice what I had paid before, so....(sigh)
