Here are my initial thoughts: Install volume, bass cut, and treble cut pots, but no 3-way toggle. One of those pots should be a push/pull to switch between parallel and OMG. I haven't fleshed out specifics yet, but my pea brain is telling me this should be possible. However, I've been wrong once or twice before. Anyone see any flaws in this logic?

I didn't try to work out what the schematic would look like, but owning a kiloton myself and having borrowed a friend's wunkay for a couple months, it sounds like a great idea.

My only thought is that I don't think a kiloton really needs a bass cut, and dispensing with the bass cut simplifies the mod.

Isn't the Kiloton pickup closer to the bridge than the L1K?

So, I'm thinking about rewiring the Kiloton. It's a 2016 that I purchased NOS last year. When it came to me the volume pot had some play in the shaft. It doesn't affect functionality, but I can feel it. Now the tone pot is starting to sound scratchy.

I really like the idea of having the L-1000 circuit in this bass, with Parallel, Single, and OMG (series with a treble cut), and both bass and treble cut pots. However, I don't like the idea of permanently modifying the body. There isn't enough room under the pickguard for the switch and 3 pots. Plus, I don't really use single coil mode at all.

Editing because I referenced the wrong cap.
The 0.001uF pot labeled C3 is to lower the resonant frequency of the pickup. The Kilo doesn't have that.

The 0.0022uF cap labeled C1 on the bass pot is there to lower the resonant frequency of the pickup. Doesn't affect the pot functionality, but it will affect the pickup's tone. It can be omitted if you want to keep the stock tonality. Adding it should make the bass a little less nasal or a little more low-mid focused.

You guys bring up some good points. I don't think I've ever turned the bass down on my amp with this thing. It's typically the highs and mids I'm trying tweak/cut. Leaving out the bass cut pot certainly simplifies this a bit. Would it be possible to wire in that C1 cap, anyway, and achieve the same effect without the pot?

The Kiloton pickup sits in the L-1500 position iirc. Between the L-1000 and the L-2000 bridge position. The parallel mode is supposed to give a stingray sound.

Concerning C1 you can wire it with an 1Meg resistor instead of the pot.

I'm an idiot. It's C3 that is there to lower the resonant frequency, not C1. C1 is used for the bass cut. The Kilo/L-1500 doesn't have C3, but the L-1000/L-2000 have that cap grounded to the bass cut pot. Hence my mistake.
But yes, you can wire C3 in without the pot.

yeah, I looked at @Boitameuh 's response and realized that glancing at the schematic on my phone while being half distracted by other things probably wasn't the best idea for giving you an accurate response.

My situ is just the opposite... I didn't ask for a scratchy tone pot with my build to order, but they sent it anyways... and get this...

Yeah my bad, if you want to get rid of the bass cut just replace C1 and VR1 by a wire !

Hey G&L fans!

My latest is a 1998 G&L SB-2. Transparent Blue. I modded the electronics to master tone, master volume, pan (I really dislike two volume knobs). Aftermarket pick guard too.

I really love the tonal possibilities of this bass. And the pickup output is incredible for a passive bass.

You probably won't like the answer as G&L don't have the best resale value.

USA L2000 usually sell between 800-1200 USD depending on the condition and custom options. You can search sold items on eBay and it will show you the same.
