Very cool! My L1000 is a September 1980 as well. The neck was a little wonky at first back in '81 when I was gigging it 6 nights / wk, but it's stabilized into a rock by now. Thx, Tony!
I have an 80s L1000 too, and I'm really starting to bond with it.
Same color as that one too, although RW Fretboard.
I also thought about a refinish, but then I kinda dig all that checking in the original finish. As long as the finish is not coming off into my hands, I'm gonna keep it original and play the snot out of it.

Picked this up two weeks ago from Jon Mouradian...Wunkay Hog B002222 with an Ebony Board.
My first G&L Fretless was an SB-2 and I miss it dearly! This one is amazing! Congratulations.

So, I'm thinking about rewiring the Kiloton. It's a 2016 that I purchased NOS last year. When it came to me the volume pot had some play in the shaft. It doesn't affect functionality, but I can feel it. Now the tone pot is starting to sound scratchy.
I really like the idea of having the L-1000 circuit in this bass, with Parallel, Single, and OMG (series with a treble cut), and both bass and treble cut pots. However, I don't like the idea of permanently modifying the body. There isn't enough room under the pickguard for the switch and 3 pots. Plus, I don't really use single coil mode at all.
Here are my initial thoughts: Install volume, bass cut, and treble cut pots, but no 3-way toggle. One of those pots should be a push/pull to switch between parallel and OMG. I haven't fleshed out specifics yet, but my pea brain is telling me this should be possible. However, I've been wrong once or twice before. Anyone see any flaws in this logic?
