Agreed on that. An M with the blend just off-centre toward the bridge is really sweet.

Yes, panning toward the bridge can get into L-1500/Kiloton territory, which I don't use much but is very cool to have, especially because you can maintain bass with the EQ. On my M-2500, I usually pan slightly toward the neck pickup for maximum growly thickness, and I love it.

Yeah like most things it is a preference. I just really like being to blend just off center either direction.

What's the reason for separate volume controls (JB-2, SB-2) over a blend control? Is there some tonal difference with one configuration over the other?

I just wonder what kind of stuff you would actually play this on. Middle eastern music? Oriental?

L-2000 sighting. The bassist is apparently a guy named Sam Howard. Literally no mention of him on TalkBass ever. Sounds like a solid player.

He gets some decent camera time at the beginning of the 4th song.

So I've been thinking about modding my L2K again.

What if I put a stacked pot in for bass/treble and a pan control in? Disconnect the pickup selector.

Seems like it should work?

The Bass control is a 1meg reverse taper pot, so stacking that control would be difficult.
OR you could stack the Volume Treble, (250k Lin) and put the blend as a separate knob.
You "Could" eliminate the Bass cut control and have a v/bl/tone (treble cut)

CAN you FIND a pot for this: 3 wafer. (Audio taper for Treble, 2 wafers for the MN blend) 250k.

Well, "work" yes-- it WILL change the loading of the circuit, as that "volume" portion is 500, (instead of 250k) and ADD a 220K pot in the load of the main circuit for each pickup. (250k volume + 220k)
That is also a deep pot stack, check the measurements to see if it fits the control cavity.
This WILL change the tone. Likely brighter.
The volume blend stack would likely be the easiest insertion point rather than to re-wire the tone circuit.
You could go with a stacked dual volume pot BUT see the issues with blend vs dual volume debate:
Blend knob vs. 3 way switch
Blend knob vs. Two volumes for signal loss
2 volumes vs. blend pot
Benefit of Vol/Vol vs. a blend knob?
Volume/Volume or Volume/Blend
also: Blend pot tapers



Either way, there will be an output drop when centered (or both volumes up full) due to the additional loads.
with a stacked volume/volume you CAN balance the output, leaving the switch in place, in the middle position. Dimming one pup back from full volume.
Again: this will still change the tone and output profile due to the change in the load. (brighter)

Can someone post the wiring diagram for the L2K single coil mod that requires nothing but a 3way instead of 2way switch?

The diagrams in bassesbyleo are confusing me.
