G&L Club Part 7

It's the same bass, such a terrific L1000.
I’ve only had it for a month or so, and just got it set up with a new lighter set of xl170 rw strings this past weekend.
It plays better for me now, and the alnico pickup sounds fab.
Loving the super light weight, and the 12” radius neck.
The lb100 i traded for it had the #12 neck, too, only with a 9.5” radius.

I can't remember, I may have recorded the neck info in my spreadsheet. The green and the natural L1000 are very rare, I've only seen about 5-6 with the factory alnico pickups.

My first introduction to G&L was a mohogany and maple board L-1000. What a glorious sounding bass. Unfortunately, as I got older, it got more heavy. I know have a L2K in a svelte 7.6 lbs.

Got my US JB2 and L1000 back from being set up. My setup guy told me the JB2 was a 7.5” radius. I don’t know if that was a standard for that model.
Labella Low Tension flats for the J and Daddario xl170 roundwounds for the L.
Had to do a bit of knob swappage while i was at it.

Nice basses man.
Does anyone know what fretwire is on the JB in these pics? It looks the same as the frets on one of my L2000 basses. Definitely bigger (wider at least) than any Fender I currently own and I'd like to know what fret wire it is for a custom build.

Also - those black knobs - if I wanted to order them what model # do I need to look for?

Be aware that half-rounds and pressure wounds are far apart. Put simply, half-rounds lean way towards flats, and pressure wound lean toward rounds. If you found Cobalts too dull, you may feel the same about half-rounds. Consider pressure wound. They are livelier than either of those, but with low finger noise and quite dominant fundamentals.

Wait what??? This is a thing? L2K pups on a JB?

Not yet but it will be soon!

Could I get el-toro pups on a JB?

I'm guessing no but you should definitely ask, Greg at Rocket Music got my crazy orders to happen. He's the best dealer I've ever worked with! If G&L has the Toro pickup routes programmed into their CNC machines then maybe. You'd probably have to supply the pickups, though.

Thanks! I didn’t get a build sheet with the jb2,but the frets feel pretty much the same as the ones listed as “medium jumbo” on the L-1000.
And Which set of black knobs are you referring to?
The ones on the JB2 are Rickenbacker vintage style knobs. The ones on the L came off the intercom system speakers in my condo, and there were only 3. :D
