I see yours has "Series E" on the headstock. Mine had that, too. It was from the early years of the company. Does anybody know if that text specifically dates the bass? I've always assumed so, but it's the real experts that read TB who would know for sure...

No, I didn't keep them. Congrats on getting it! I really love the JB-2. I don't think I'll ever want to play a regular Jazz body again. Since I've loved mine so much I decided I needed another G&L. I decided on a L2000 but I really wanted a 1.5" neck. Of course the Tribs don't come in that width so... I sent a couple of emails and now I keep checking the G&L facebook page everyday hoping to see an Orange Flake L2000 headed to Rocket music! Really looking forward to that one!
Finally got my Tribute L2500 tweaked into playability. Someone in this bass' past cranked the living pemmican out of the truss rod. I finally just said **** it, took off the strings, and loosened the heck out of the truss rod. Put some Labella LTF's on it, tuned it up, and let it sit for a week or so. It FINALLY has a bit of relief in the neck. No more buzzes. (and today is 4/20...lol) A little fine tuning of the string height and we're good. Glad I finally got it sorted out. I would have been extremely disappointed if I had to return it.

I can understand the aesthetic symmetry of having three switches and three knobs, BUT
I really wish that pickup selection switch was a Blend knob, instead of the neck/both/bridge switch. It would add considerable versatility to have a blend instead and be able to choose how much of each pickup you want to use. Has anyone modded their L2000 with a blend knob instead? I guess that's the one feature I miss from my M2000.

I agree, but I still do not get the "relic'd" look. I understand how it started and why, but if I'm getting a brand new instrument, I want to relic it myself, or in my case, keep it looking showroom new! I know it's totally a matter of personal taste, YMMV, blah blah blah. And know that I'm squarely in the camp of instruments are meant to be played, not DISplayed (tm)...but...you can still take care of them and keep them looking good.

Hell, ya, it's phony. So often, you can tell it's fake and I'm like "Why didn't ya just wait until somebody returned one that was damaged in shipping? You'd have paid 1/4 the money and at least it would be honest damage, not some vintage wanna-be."

I probably would not buy a new relic, and. I dont seek them out to buy a worn looking bass, this one was just the combination of body wood & model that was currently piqued my interest.

Somewhere I read that early on the preamp was an option, and those that had it were designated with the Series E. At some point it became standard & the designation was dropped.
Oh, and no disrespect intended on my part. I'm a huge live and let live, whatever floats your boat, you do you kinda guy. I just don't get new relics. But no judgement intended or offered.
We all have our different opinions....
I don't mind a pristine bass, I don't mind buying a used bass with some battle scars, but I can't see myself buying a bass that hasn't EARNED it's scars. That's just me though, I don't often understand artificially reliced instruments, or new "torn" pants.

My thought is it's a shame to see another thread dragged into this worn-out debate. There must be hundreds already.
Where would you put the knob?
You only have 3 pot holes. Don't drill another.
Closest you could get would be a noble (MEC) combined stacked volume/blend . Or stacked dual volume.
You could use the volume/blend in the treble cut ,(middle) position.
Then what are you going to do with the switch? Extended KMOD ?
