G&L Introduces Short Scale Fallout Bass - Launch Edition

The stripe on the yellow one has been moved in some. Look where the stripes end on the bottom of the body in relation to the bottom strap button.
There is NO COMPARISON between the sound of Mustang loaded with the classic Mustang split p/u or P pickup and that of any bass loaded with a G&L MFD wired in this manner.
I know the styling/scale reflects a ‘60s competition Mustang. But that is where the similarities end. Any 1:1 comparison is likely offered with little insight into the MFD.

This is a great looking design overall, but I too can't get behind the racing stripe. All those sleek, beautifully drawn out curves and then a set of clumsy, out-of-place stripes... would have to find a great deal on one of these to overlook them, but even then they would bother me. One of the few cosmetic things I take issue with.
That said, hats off to G&L for taking us short-scale lovers into consideration! Perhaps the next run will feature a non-striped option

It's like having two similar sports cars, one has a V8, the other a turbo charged V6. They will both get you from point A to B pretty fast, but the two are going to have very different exhaust notes...
As I shop for a new bass, I keep thinking, I can build exactly what I want, from Warmoth, short scale, body, wood, color, roasted maple neck, tuners and PU's of choice, all for under a grand. $2-300 under a grand depending on my choices. Just can't see $1,300 for one of these, and I don't like the stripe thing at all.

Yeah. At that price, for my interest level, I’ll grab a Fender Jaguar (edit - Mustang) with a P pickup and swap it for a Duncan of choice (the Steve Harris), and blow the difference on some other GAS items.

Just tried to order with payment in full from Upfront for $1,300, and they pulled the switcheroo on the price just today or yesterday. These are officially $1,700 retail now. HARD pass at that price; they are truly smoking a lot of crack. According to the other dealer I was talking to, "The price up until about a month ago was $1300, but they could not get costs down, so MAP is indeed $1699," and, "From what [the G&L rep] said, the cost of building these just made that price point not make sense, especially when you take into account shipping on their end, and our end."
Well, if you like it, better buy one soon...I can see this becoming "Limited Edition" (discontinued!!) in the very near future...
It is limited edition – or a limited order window, to be more precise in the wording. Limited edition means that only a certain number are manufactured, and no more – and they are pre-made made on speculation, not made to order. Limited production period means that they will make only as many as are ordered, until a certain date (i.e. made to order, not made as an edition on spec). It’s technically “unlimited edition” (i.e. they will make as many as they sell), but for a limited time only. In this particular case, word is that the dealer order window for these closes at the end of November.
After that, they are going into standard production, possibly at a slightly lower price without stripes, without matching headstock, and maybe without these three colors as options. Whether they will be Fullerton Deluxe or Option Order, I am not sure yet. I do know that I have been told they are available as Custom Shop instruments right now ($$$).
I was able to work out a compromise deal for one of the yellow ones. It’s more than I wanted to spend, but it will settle pretty well in my mind in the end. I will be forking over the dough as soon as I can get home to a real computer.
