Candy Apple Red (sexy) or Fullerton Satin Frost (very Pino) for me...glad I can't afford to make the decision. Every one is beautiful.

They are all sexy, aren't they? drool

I've become such a P-bass guy, it's not even funny. My very first bass was some $150 offshore piece of junk P-bass that I got when I was 14 or 15. After the initial thrill of having ANY bass wore off... man, I hated that thing. Made me swear off P-basses for 25+ years.

Now my Lull P4 is my main player, and I just got my '75 Fender P back from Mike Lull (refretted & Plek'd, it's now quite amazing). I also have a fretless PJ4 in the works at Lull, and I've got G&L making me an LB-100, too. My LB-100 is going to look like the white one with the maple board and the black guard. My body will be Alder instead of Empress, but I may pull a switcheroo if I like the Empress one better...

Is 4 P basses too many? LOL I like to think they're all different. My main P4 is Alder/RW, my Fender is Ash/Maple, my fretless will be Alder/Ebony w/ a Nordstrand Dual Coil in the bridge position, and my LB-100 will be Alder/Maple.

I mentioned in another thread (don't mean to derail this picture-fest) that I have tried a couple times to like a P bass but while I love when Pino is playing, I never seem to sound good on a P. I'm curious as you have played more "modern" basses before - like your Roscoe - and are now playing a P. I know that Roscoe has been described as a "P on steroids" kind of bass, and I get that vibe when I roll to the neck pup, but I can't seem to commit to the "simple" P-bass concept.

Maybe it's like a 6 string and I just didn't give it enough time. I am happy with my Roscoes for sure, but I sometimes want to like a simple bass.

There was definitely a brief period of adjustment for me. I'm not sure if it's particular to a P or if it's just flatwound strings, but I found that I had to become more accurate with how I fret notes. If you sort of half fret a note (where you don't press down firmly, or maybe you lift off the fret too slowly), the sound can be pretty obnoxious. It's a choked squawk sort of sound. It took a little bit of practice to eliminate that, but really it's just about having better technique to begin with and playing with intention.

Then there's the whole single pickup thing. Tone variation (other than the tone knob) only comes from your hands. Where you pluck the string (out by the neck, over the pickup, back by the bridge) and how you pluck the string (finger style, palm mute, slap, etc.) become much more important if you want to vary your sound over the course of an evening.

All of which has been a hugely fun challenge for me. I'm sure that's part of why I'm digging it so much. That, and a P just has that sound... yum.

Greg is there a summary of which LB-100's are empress wood - did i miss that post somewhere?
Jim

The first post sort of does. Here they are sorted by body wood and with links to the specs on my site. Sorry this doesn't correlate well with the photos yet, but I'll have photos on my site soon.

Please note that there were a couple #11 necks not called out, and two of the finishes are satin frost (also not called out in G&L's description). I think there was also a BWB pickguar that G&L missed. The specs on my site have been updated, but I've left the original G&L descriptions intact.
