G&L LB-100 Extravaganza!!!

I like G&L...

This one looks about perfect except it needs at least one more string... :D

Can anyone comment on the way these necks feel compared to a MIA Fender neck? Also the 11 vs 12?

The #11 sports a slightly rounder fretboard than the #12. The #12 is 12" radius, the #11 is 7.5". Both have a 1 5/8" nut width and identical depth specs.

Here are all of the details on the various G&L neck profiles: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I assume Fender offers multiple neck profiles as well? Sorry, I'm not super hip to what Fender offers. Anyway, if so then you'd just need to compare apples to apples for nut width, radius and the depth specs.

How do you compare the LB-100's tone to the SB-1?
IMO the '80s SB-1 is the best-sounding P-bass ever.

Also curious about the tone of pine vs. alder/ash.

I've never played an SB-1, but I've played plenty of SB-2's. Assuming they're similar (other than the added bridge pickup on the SB-2), the LB-100 is more of a traditional P-bass sound. The SB-2's I've played have really hot pickups, and to my ears they sound like a P-bass on steroids. The LB-100 would be the non-steroid version, more true to the original Fender vibe/sound.

With the SB's, the volume knob can have a noticeable effect on the tone. Not so much with the LB-100, it's stays pretty much the same tone all over the volume pot.

I haven't spent enough time with the pine ones yet to form an opinion. My plan is to do that next week, though. I will report back!

I got 5 more LB-100's photographed today. Here's the first one, and more to come tomorrow!!

There's a lot of subtle figure in the Empress body on this one. You can see it best in the photo of the back, but it's present both front and back in reality. And it's stupid lightweight, just 7.4 lbs.
