Bridging isn't the same as cleaning.
Get some CAIG DeOxit, spray it on a q-tip or cable end, and clean the jack. If using a cable end, wipe and repeat til it's clean.
My 4(?) year old MBF500 was making a noise at rehearsal the other day that I thought was a bad output jack on my 1972 Tele bass, but then after ruling things out and cleaning jacks, it was back to fine.

Yes, I'm aware of the existence of volume knobs. I think the real culprit is the 410. To get my OD sounding right, I have to have the volume up louder on the 410. Trying out a 210 now, that I can drive with less power, to get that same effect. Seems to work so far.

Couldn't find CAIG, but used another electrical grade contact cleaner. If anything, the static is worse when I turn it on now! And the amp is MUCH quieter than it should be. I know some people have to remove the casing and spray pots to fix scratchy ones (my master is one), is there something similar I could try? Does this tell you guys anything? Thanks again!

Also, the cable end seems clean when I remove it. Cleaned every in/output a few times to make sure. No difference.

CRC Electrical Grade QD Contact Cleaner. Sprayed a cable end, inserted it, removed it, wiped it off, and repeated.

Confirmation bias is also at play. I'm sure the fact I'n no longer muted when turning on and looking for crackling has made me sensitive. It's not like the noise got exponentially worse, but it's definitely not better!

With the amp off work your master volume back and forth several times to see if you can clear your scratchiness.

Ok, that seems to be doing the trick. The initial scratchiness/fuzzy sound is mostly gone, replaced by a minor pop (which is fairly normal, right?). After adjusting the master volume, some notes became fuzzy again, and volume was lessened. I'll give it all another go, and try it tomorrow. Do you think I should remove the case and try and get in closer to the master volume pot? Anyway, thanks again B-String! As always, any time I need help, you seem to be the one that does it. It's appreciated!

I don't know if I would use the CRC on the pots. I have never tried it and while it says "safe for plastics" it doesn't say safe for "conductive plastics". You might cause damage to pots with the CRC (wash down of the conductive plastic). Open the case though and vacuum out, unplug and reseat any connectors.

Has somebody heard the cx cabs? They are said to be a good match with the mb heads, and I wonder how they would do with a fusion 550. They are said to be less bright than the neos wich makes them attractive to me (if they could be in the spirit of the old sbx series it would be fine: warm, precise and punchy!)

Well, after using contact cleaner on the jacks and on a knob or two, the staticy fuzz is gone! Now it's only got a small pop when I turn it on/off. Not perfect, but much improved. The pots are still scratchy, but much less so. Took off the case, but the rears of the pots were covered, and most of the cables were seated so tightly I was afraid I'd break something removing them! Only able to reseat the 2 on the power switch.

Anyway, much better! Glad it only cost $8, and not a trip to the tech!

Actually, evaporative contact cleaners almost always end up hurting pots in the long run. They stop the noise for a while, but the pots eventually get noisy again, or even seize up, because the cleaner washes out the grease that lubricates the bushing.

You'll get better results if you use specific products for each purpose: De-Oxit is best for switch contacts and jacks, but you want a "TV tuner cleaner/lubricant" as well. It sprays into the pot as a thin oil, but thickens into a greasy gel that lubricates the bushing and the wiper. More importantly, it fills the body of the pot, to keep air and dirt off the track. A single application can last for decades.

It's getting harder to find, now that TV's don't have mechanical tuners. In North America, a good source is Radio Shack (The Source, in Canada). It's called Control Cleaner/lubricant, part number 6400148.

Hey fellas,

I've got a question for you guys that run the GK NEO112-II. How loud are you able to get with one before it starts to fart out? I've read some claims that once of them can be loud enough for small clubs, but when I run mine with my TH500 and a P bass, I can get to maybe 10:30 (clock face) on the master before I start to get some whizzing. How does it compare to, say, a Berg HD112?

I have an old 250ML, yes I know it's a guitar amp, but I was running my bass through it into two 8 ohm cabs (and was getting a very heavenly sound out of it - especially with the chorus on) when I let the smoke out of it.

Putting all hindsight advice aside (like not pushing it using a bass, duh) does anyone know where I might obtain a parts 250ml (series II)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn on, turn off pop is normal.
