Gear you lusted for but could never find

Just wondering what basses or other bass related gear you gassed for over the years but could never find at least at an affordable price. There have been a few for me over the last 10 or 15 years. Prices have risen on some things such that I just wouldn't buy today even if I still wanted it. For most the lust for these has come and gone and I have moved on (its not a wanted ad :))
  • Warwick Stage 2 4 string - These are few and far between but have gotten more expensive over the years. I found one up here in Canada but it was $4k. I bought a Streamer LX instead
  • Modulus Funk Unlimited/Flea - even ran a wanted ad and found a couple of sellers who both backed out. I built a Sterling Ray 34 with a graphite neck and Lane Poor copy pup....didn't sound the same
  • Ampeg B15 - the prices have risen on these too
  • Audiokinesis cab - ordered one and waited over a year and eventually bought a Subway 115 instead which did the trick

I think I just saw a Modulus bass with Lane Poor pickup on the classifieds.

When I was in high school I lusted for a Kawai f2b
Now I can tell I wouldn't like the ergonomics, but I still think it's somehow hotter than the Alembics it rips off.
I don't think I've ever seen one in person.
I've got an FIIB in zebra and have owned 5 Alembics incl 3 Series. It's very good, but not in the same league as a Series. Some horrible ergonomics as the Alembic Small Point body though.

Passed on one of these in the early '90's and found this one in the TB classifieds this year. had a very convoluted purchase due to the pandemic but a friend of mine lived near the seller and made the deal happen for me.

I’ve been searching for a Wal bass, preferably a Wal mk3 five string, for years... if they show up, they’re gone within a day

Now, they’re not only getting very hard to find but they just keep getting more expensive, and the wait time keeps getting longer to order direct from Wal (3+ years now). I remember ten years ago seeing them pop up online for around 4-5K, now if I see a listing pop up, it’s close to $10,000 if not more. (Personally, I blame Tool/Justin Chancellor fans for driving up demand :roflmao: stahp it guys, please!)

It’s particularity tough to stop by the Wal group and see people with their collections of these absolutely beautiful beautiful basses and knowing I’ll probably never own one. It gives me such ridiculous gas it’s unbearable. Even so, I still do a daily Wal bass search in hopes of finding that dream bass.

If I had a second on the list it would be a Jens Ritter bass. Favorite body style would probably be the Roya or the Okon, followed but the Cora. (5 string prefered). I can find them more easily than a Wal, but with similar pricing to a Wal, I just keep kicking myself for not investing in Tesla when my dad did hahaha:laugh:

i was desperate to find an Adam Clayton Purple P-Bass, but I'm glad I didnt since I took that money and bought an '83 '62 fullerton reissue.

Now I'm on the hunt for a Ken Smith BSR 5 in quilt maple thats in my budget... so, the dream continues.

In all seriousness... Lest I'd have gone crazy, I managed to find the last great long-lost piece of equipment on my lust list this past September, when I found a Trace Elliot Quatra VR power amp. I'd been looking for almost 20 years, not even a hint of one ever materialized. For all I knew, Geddy Lee owned the only two copies known. But then, just as I was ready to give up the search for good... one appeared before me.

I would also like a Berg NV610T. I was on the short list for the brief reissue-fest that Mr. Bergantino offered a couple months ago, but he could not get the 18 sign-up required to make it work. Sorry I lose.

The only other thing I really want is a couple original Pignose amp stickers like the ones Terry Kath had all over his #1 Tele.

Years ago I had heard of a "More Me" rack mount box that was being made by someone from Nashville.
It was basically a studio monitoring solution. You plugged your bass and the headphone cue from the control room into it. It had a line out to feed to the recording console and a headphone jack output.

The way it worked, no matter what kind of headphone cue you were being sent, you could dial in more of yourself. This didn't effect the signal you were sending out.

I remember reading about it being all high end audio...hand made, with Jensen transformers, but alas, by the time I could afford one, the builder stopped making them.
