Geddy Lee????? I don't get it.......

OK, First off I know I will get a tun of flack. But I HATE Geddy Lee and Rush. Sorry people. AHhahahaha! I just don't get it. I don't see the appeal. It all seems so sterile and contrived, over rehearsed, and poorly written. Now to clarify, there are players I don't care for but truly respect. Victor Wooten for example, Fantastic, Hell, amazing player. Not my thing, but wonderful. I believe it. Seems like he is making it up as he goes, Has a sense of spontaneity to it. Les Claypool , he is another one. I'm not a Primus fan, but his playing seems authentic, has that something behind it. Rush just sounds like a few soulless studio guys that thought they could do it better that the artistes they were recording for. The playing is great, but is so FLAT, so SAFE, so blaaaa. They are like Mc Donalds, The Idea of food. But with no nourishment. I get more excited about a 16 year old kid that only knows the pentatonic in A and E but loves it than Rush. Am I the only one that feels this way?

See my next comment @ #84 before you respond .....

So, tell us. Who exactly are your favorite players?: Who do you respect as a player?

I think that Rush is OK,
my woman however, can't "appreciate" Geddy's voice.

Now Jaco............ there's something I "don't get"!!!!
I hear people gushing over one of his tunes, I check it out and
think to myself - "Is this some kind of joke?"

Good thing there are enough different types of music to keep us all entertained.

I had a Weather Report song on YouTube the other day to hear what the fuss was about Jaco. My wife walked in and said, "Are you watching a bad '70s porno?"

Growing up I hated rush, Never liked the vox, and really never cared for their music. they were to me just a song taking up room on the radio. I do however see the great talent these guys have and would kill to have it. So call me whatever name you want because I dont like rush, still will not make their music any better!

Listen to the first 5 albums. :)

I am no Rush fan, but I can appreciate why other people are into them. I think they get a lot of love on here for several reasons:
-They are all good musicians with technique and chops
-They have been around FOREVER and are still doing their thing
-They have seemed to follow their muse. Most rock bands in their position would have continued to write "Moving Pictures" type material since that album was so successful, but not these guys.
-They seem like really nice guys.

I love how this thread has been hijacked into another Geddy love thread! Rush fan win!
It never should have been started in the first place. Read the sticky "So, if you are planning on starting a thread just to troll, start a flame war, bash another bassist/style/point of view or incite other non-constructive conversation on Talkbass, I will simply delete the thread and hand out infractions." I don't know why this hasn't been deleted.

What's with all the "I hate" threads lately. Unless you are in an elevator, just listen to something else.

There. I feel better now!:D

Good, I am happy you got that off your chest! I DO NOT HATE rush, like I said, I like watching them live, they are great musicians, I just dont care for most of their songs. I think almost everyone has a band or style of music they dont like, so whats the problem? I dont care for country music either, so what, I dont have to!

But saying anything at all won't make it any worse, either. :P
