Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

I had my first actual show with this head last night in downtown Ann Arbor with a packed house after the Michigan/Ohio State game. I played my Stingray 5 through the Shuttle 9 into an Eden 210XLT with no support from the PA. I was using Ed Friedland's EQ suggestion of turning the mid frequency all the way to the left and boosting a little. My strings weren't particularly new and the room was pretty murky sounding, so I kicked in the HF boost for some presence.

After the first set, my band's old bass player came up and was raving about how well I was cutting through the room. He sat in during the second set, and I was able to confirm his opinion; it sounded clear and detailed everywhere I walked.

This was a 4ohm cab and I had both of the tube knobs up at about 1 o'clock and the master up about four or five clicks. I could tell the cab was fighting to produce the low B if I dug in, but overall it was a nice fat and clear sound. Realistically, I was probably sending more juice to this cab than it's really made to take.

Regardless, I'm completely in love with the sound of this head and can't wait to play a gig where I can fire this thing up with my Berg HT322 and move some serious air!

I ask because i use a 3.0-10T Combo for church but have got a 9.0 on order. I was wondering whether i could use the 9.0 and one cab for the church gig. The 9.0 has all the same ins out as my combo so if it can be quiet for enough for church i could sell the combo to fund another cab.

Sure.... why not? The amp won't care. It doesn't need to be loud to work properly (or sound good).

The 9.0 is a really neat head. Very versitile and warm sounding. I find it very easy to get a tone out of with minimal bs. As with Eden, get the gain set right to feed the preamp and let her rip. I have yet to find a cabinet that any of the shuttle amps don't sound good with.

I'm hoping to start trying some different cabs out next year. I'd like to pick up something the same weight if not lighter than my 210XLT, 8ohm, that goes a little deeper and handles a little more power.

I will be using either Berg HS410, or Aguilar DB212 (8 ohm x 2) mainly when the 9 gets here.

I do have a Tecamp M212 but I'm not sure that pairing is safe as it's 4 ohms.

Must admit Id like 2 Uber 210s.

A few ppl are suggesting the tc elec rh450, but I think I've made the right choice with the shuttle 9.0, much more powerful and the 8 ohm rating seems great.

Another Bergantino user here; dual HT112ER cabs.

I had been using a Markbass SD800 and really enjoyed that amp. The 9.0 is, as described by others, a little warmer, a little more "natural and organic", yet retains all of the clarity and quickness that I had with the MB. And talk about volume and punch!

Just my $.02.

What a difference it makes, tweaking the two input volumes on these amps! I have a 6.0 and was experimenting with different cabs and and still amazed at how much booty this little amp has. I can only imagine that the 9.0 would be more of everything that is so great about this amp.

I do wish the 6.0 had a little more natural low end but the way it's voiced sure helps it to punch through a band mix.

I'll be using my 9.0 with my 4 ohm tecamp............

Do you have a 4 ohm L410? Wonderful cab isn`t it? I use mine with a Mark Bass F500, sounds great, but sometimes I need a little more headroom. Please let me know how you like the 9,0/TecAmp rig.

I've got the M210. Gone back to the shop at the moment because of an annoying rattle :scowl:

Hopefully the 9.0 will arrive in the Uk in a couple of weeks :)
