Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

I own the Golight 2x10. Be careful running the 9.0 in that cab. I found I preferred the Golight 1x15 with the 9.0 as a standalone 8 ohm cab. Though the 1x15 is bigger and heavier at 45 pounds vs the 38 of the 2x10. For 4 ohms I use the 1x15 and 2x10 together or a 4 ohm Golight 4x10.

I'd like to pair the 9.0 with the Uber 2x12. Kind of a meet the whole thing in the middle thing.

Now you tell me :) Actually, I was really careful turning up the volume and eq settings at the store with the Golight 2x10. I slowly crept up to wide open just to make sure it was all good. Once I established that I've been running it wide open all day into the Golight 2x10 and its been fine. I don't run a ton of low end or spike any frequency range for that matter and the cab is handling it well. Can't wait to the speakers/cab break in and loosen up a bit. I think it will be a pretty sweet sounding cab at that point.

I played through a GB 2x10, 2x12 and 1x12 today with it. I actually preferred the 1x12 the best out of those oddly enough. None of them were Ubers unfortunately. I really wanted to check out the Uber stuff, but they were sold out. Maybe next time.

I do not remember my settings when playing my 9.0 with my 2x10 but I'm pretty sure I did not dime it. I know for sure I can not dime the 9.0 with my 4 ohm 4x10 Golight. I thought I was going to blow the 4x10 first time I turned it up good. Made an awful smacking sound.

For those of you running your Shuttle 9.0 into the Neox 212, how far can you push it?
Have you been close to "the edge" of what the Neox 212 can handle?

I'm thinking of swapping my Aguilar rig for Genz Benz and I'm intrigued by the 9.0/Neox212. I haven't tried that combo yet, but I have tried a 6.0 into a Neox 112, and really liked what I heard. From reading on here though, it seems I may prefer the 9.0's low end more. I know a 212 will naturally increase low end, but I still think the 9.0 would be better for what I'm after tonally.

Cheers

Yes.. you can run it without a speaker load...

Just picked up a Shuttle 9.0 and SWR Golight 2x10 today. Going to put them through paces here at home for a while see how it goes. Thanks for all the info.

Does any know if the Shuttle 9.0 can be used without a speaker load on it? I have zero stage volume gig that I would love to take it on if possible. Under the Headphone Out section, the manual says "A speaker load is not required" But I'm wondering if thats only when the headphone jack is in use or any time.

I tried the Shuttle 6 thru an ampeg 410HLF

It sounded good- this was a loaner amp- then I tried an svt cl- bc I play at low volumes
the svt cl was quite a disappointment.

The cab ( Genz 6 ) amp combo gave great, solid low end ( sorry for lack of better description )

The svt shocked me- likely time to buy a Genz
but should I buy a 6, a 9 or the 12?
6 is enuf vol, but 12 has more tonal options.
I originally thought the svt cl would give more "tone", but it didn't work at those lower volumes... more like indistinctness.

The cab i own is low heavy, w 3 ports
I am wondering if the 9 or 12 is too much bass?

In an effort for more tonal variety, can either the 9 or 12 dial OUT some lows ( already plentiful w the Big 410hlf ) ?
Bc the lows were just right w the 6

I want more tonal options than the 6,,, is why I am asking
Thanks

Fender early 60's stock J bass player

if you want more tonal options than the 6 but you have only one cab maybe the shuttle max 6.. If you got the shuttle max 12 you would only be using half the amp.. The MAX6 is the same front as the MAX12 only with one power amp.
Now if you want more power into that one 4 ohm cab get the shuttle 9. its loud and warm...
So if you are planning on just using one cab and want more options than the shuttle 6 but the 6 power is fine for you. the MAX6 would be my suggestion....
one good thng about the MAX12 is it is its own backup amp. two separate power supplys and power amps in one box. pretty cool.

Thank you. I have two questions
1 Can a max6 or 9. or max 12, roll back on the bass in such a way that I won't regret buying one of them rather than the shuttle 6 which already is a perfect match in the low end?

My biggest fear was moving up to the very big deep ( 3 ports ) svt410hlf cab would be too much bass for the room.
I was pleasantly surprised with the marriage of the large room/ J bass passive. Shuttle 6/ svt410hlf/ a perfect marriage as far as boominess goes.
This moves me to second question
2 If I CAN in fact mimic the low end curve of the shuttle 6, with the Max 6 or 9 or max 12, is it worthmoving towards one of these 3 amps BECAUSE they have greater tonal qualities?

The shuttle 6 and svt410 were well married for lows. But I wanted more "tone". I bought an svt cl. Thinking I would get more tone, but I was sadly mistaken. At least at these low levels

I would think the Shuttle 6.0 would pair up well with the Ampeg 410HLF. I use that cab with a Markbass head for a church I play twice a month, since I can leave it there.

I have never played that ampeg cab with a shuttle head... I am familair with it. and that cab has some big bottom.
I think you could easily find what you want in any of those head.. there isnt that much of a difference as some folks made it to be.. IMO I mean people that were knocking the Shuttle 6 for not having enough big bottom are now in love with the TC amp that has a rolled off bottom end from their own words.. i scratch my head.
I do think that the shuttle 9 does have a bigger bottom. not boomy at all.. just full on round.
MAny folks have said that you can boost the bass about 3 clicks on the shuttle 6 to match the 9.. I think i even said that at one time.. but maybe it is more just the added head room..
All i know is that i really like the amps
and if you did need to get a little less bass just lower the bass control to about 11 oclock and i think you can easily get what you want.
But if you are only gig to use one 4 ohm cab i would not get the SM12. thats just me..
But the Shuttle MAX6 would give you way more options than the 6 while the 9 will give you the same footprint but with much more headroom than the 6.
So if you want to really mix it up with much variety the MAX 6 may be your ticket...
And i think that either the MAX6 or shuttle9 can easily get you to the neighborhood of the 6 with a little tweak or two..

I think I've decided to buy a 9.0 to replace my Ashdown ABM-500 II (UK made) as I want to go light. I currently have a pair of EA VL-110 speakers as well as an older Epifani T-210. I'm going to sell the Epi (weighs too much and it has a *lot* of low end) and maybe one of the EAs.

Anyone have an ideal cabinet to mate to the 9.0? I'm thinking Bergantino AE210. I am doing jazz, a funk gig, and running Sadowsky and Rob Allens. I favor articulate mids and a nice warm round tone rather than massive low end. More Jamerson than Marcus.

The GB neo 212 is popular to pair up with the 9.0. I'm really pleased with my GB uber 410 if you're willing to go that big (it's a breeze to move for a 410).

I'm not really willing to "go large". Most of my jazz gigs are pretty low volume, and I've been able to do the Ashdown an single VL110. In fact I have used that on louder gigs when it veers more towards blues and funk. I suppose I could go with a 6.0, but I like the idea of having headroom. For the funk thing I'm thinking a 210 should cover smaller clubs and if I want a little more air I can throw one of the VL110s on top...or get another 210.

Got to be careful using too little cab with the 9.0. That neo 212 might be as small as I'd go with it. Having said that, so long as you're careful with volume (and you said you are on the jazz gigs) you may well be just fine with the 9.0 through a 210.

I am guessing but the shuttle 6 pushes the svt 410hlf ( 500 watts RMS @ 4 Ohms ) with no problem

Why would you need to go to the 9 with a smaller cab ( power demanding wise )?

The shuttle6 and the big 410 cab are a very nice full tone without boominess.

Part of it is questions I still have about class D amps (I'm living in the past) and the fact that for an extra $130 or so you get a lot more headroom. I suppose technically the 6.0 would be a "perfect" mate for the AE210 (375W @ 8ohms output and a 400W rated cab) but something in me wants a bit more breathing space.

I'm not going to run a 4-10 unless someone else is hauling it ;)

If you want to check out that combo, I have both the 9.0 and
the Berg AE210, as well as a few other boxes. That combo is
most certainly not "hi fi" sounding. Very punchy and warm.

One never knows what gig will come up next. Also some report different voicing on the 6.0 versus the 9.0. Not sure about class D amps, but I know that with other amps I've owned they sound different depending on how hard you're pushing them. Tube amps often sound great when you're thrashing them. Solid state, not so much...
