Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

All true. Personally I would go direct from amp to speaker cabinets separately.
What the heck I like the shortest, most direct path.
By the way with that rig when you thump an open E or B, you first better find something to hold on to.
It's going to kill!
Please let us know how that works out for you.
... will do . :bassist::D

any day now , i'll be powering two 8 ohm LDS 15/6.5 cabs with my Shuttle 9.0 ...
would it make any difference if i just chained the cabs together ,
or should i use each speaker outlet separately ?

If you have short cables, you might have to daisy chain. Depends how far forward you place the Shuttle atop the cab stack. The reach from the Shuttle to the bottom cab might be too far for a 3' cable.

I want to hear all about that combo when you get a chance.
I always use 2 speakons from the amp when given the chance.
I plan to power an LDS 1515/66 with the 9.0 so please give us an impressions post. I have a 5 or 6ft speakon for the lower cab when using two with my other head.

Daisy chaining will result in the doubling the amount of wire going to the second cabinet, and would add a small amount of resistance. Two independent connections is the most direct method.

Andy, Scott and Roger will hate me for this, but here we go:
:p
what do you guys think about having the shuttle series with instead of the three presets a
"contour" (enhancer/ "magic knob"...) and TWO semi parametrics mid controls?

:hiding:

I love my shuttle, but with these options it would be even bitchier (sp?)

:ninja:

I LOVE the input on our interfaces. The only issue is though, that two bassists never agree on what the "knobs" should be/do.

The two band mid control on the MAX series was from input received by people here. Of course, we received equal input that we have too many knobs.

I owned a 6.0 for along time, the tone did it for me but the available headroom and volume did not. After a year of amp quest I've go e through many. I just had to return a SVT-7 for pooping out on me once and a while when pushing it. I want to go back to Genz Benz real bad, but am afraid of their Wattage rating, keep in mind I have yet to experience the low end new to the shuttle series (9.0 and MAX amps).

Can I count on the 9.0 to push my 500W RMS Ampeg 410HE as hard as the SVT-7 with out cutting out on me? Is it safe to also plug in a 8ohm 250w rms 112 for the combined 4Ohms? I mean is it safe for the 250W 112?

After going through a series of warm amps I've decide the HiFi yet warm capable Genz Benz Tone is for me, trying to decide between 9.0 and 12.0. I'd prefer the 9.0 for simplicity and size. I don't want to go through the same learning process I went through with the RH450, just want to set my GB gain structure to taste, find a good finger funk tone and stomp on the Boosts for that sexy slap porn tone.

Also, my filters want to go back to Genz Benz, they haven't sound as wet since my 6.0.

Remember, the Max 12 is a dual mono amp that cannot be bridged (i.e., needs two 4ohm cabs to reach its full power potential). The hi pass filter is set at a lower level on the Max amps and 9, so they sound fuller and fatter down low... very nice. The 9 sounds WAY better than the 6 all the way around... a bit louder, but more importantly, more full and fat down low.

For that cab, it would be the Shuttle 9 all the way for me. The bright, tight, modern voicing of the 9, along with pretty good power specs, should match up well with the dark and relatively low SPL Ampeg cab you have. IMO!

I guess the MAX 12.0 isn't for me, I don't have Ohms to push it. Have you A/B'd the 9.0 and RH450 in volume. I think I remember you making a comparison somewhere in the huge RH450 mega thread. My RH450 spanks the 6.0 in volume over a range of tones, but with my cabs the RH450 falls a bit short on loud out door gigs (just a bit short though). From Kjung and other TBer reports the 9.0 should also spank the 6.0 in volume and low end. But can it get louder than the RH450 with my cabs outdoors? I'm not a pro and don't always have PA support...half my shows pay in food & beer.

I don't expect 9.0 to be quite as loud as the SVT-7 but do hope it drives the hell out of that 410HE? It's got to be noticeably louder with that cab than RH450 right?

Perfect Bass is offering 10% off on this guy today!:hyper: Getting trigger happy....:ninja:

+1 The RH450 spanks the 6 pretty well (very different tone though). In my indirect comparison of the RH450 and 9, they seem pretty close into a large 4ohm cabinet. However, my guess is that the 9 would pull ahead of the RH450 at 8ohms (based on other comments posted about the 9 and 8ohm operation). Of course, the 9 is much brighter and sizzlier up top.

Sure, there are alot of knobs....But, there sure is alot of tone in these knobs as well! :D

I did 3 shows in a row last week at different venues. Every sound guy gave me a compliment
on my tone using the Shuttle Max 12.0. They really liked that I could switch the DI to mic level instead of line.
They also mic'd my cab too and I must say I agree with them......the bass did sound killer!

I am hungry for sizzle!

+1 I am a big fan of the dual semi-parametric mids, myself.

+1 All the way. My guess is the 'too many knobs' comments on the Max heads have more to do with the overwhelming visual of two fully featured channels (lots of knobs in an absolute sense when everything is doubled).

To me, each channel design is perfect on the Max heads.... bass and treble shelving, two semi-parametric mid controls, and variable filters that are actually usable versus the IMO extreme 'all or nothing' buttons on the regular Shuttles.

+1 Back atcha! :D

I own both a Shuttle 9.0 and a ShuttleMAX 12.0, and I have uses which would favor one over the other. Normally, the simplicity of a single-channel head is going to work the best for me, but in one band where I double a lot on upright/electric, having two channels to dial in is really helpful. It's also useful for dialing in both a clean and an overdriven tone. Yes, with the ShuttleMAX 12, I still use my EBS ValveDrive for my overdrive, but I do like to EQ an overdriven signal differently than a clean signal.

But again, I definitely see where for a lot of players the two banks of knobs might be intimidating/overkill.

Tom.

I spent some serious gig time comparing these and other micro amps going back and forth, back and forth (can you say OCD?). I have ended with the 9.0 (3rd 9.0). Based on tone, power, weight and convenience. The RH450 is a great sounding, feature laden amp but unquestionably falls short on power for me. The 9.0 brings me the closest to my tone goals with plenty of headroom. It sounds great with any of my Epi cabs. The 9.0 is absolutely louder than the RH450 IMHO.
The 9.0 magic is in understanding the nuances in the gain and volume control relationship. Once you wrap your head around this it's a joy to play through.

Definitely a nice box with plenty of ooomph. I'm not a fan of the RH450 with my Epi cabs, and can see the 9 sounding a bit better (punchier, tighter, and it would not surprise me if the perceived volume was a bit more with that voicing combination... the RH450 gets a little flubby sounding to my ear with the wide, slightly scooped Epi voicing). Mix and match!

If and when a Shuttle Max 9 comes out, I'm probably in.
