Genz-Benz Shuttle Megathread

I just got called back for the blues band I played with recently (gig review of the Shuttle 3.0 ministack here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5285809&postcount=593). We're going to play the same club on Saturday March 1, and this time they're bringing in a recording engineer with a mobile Protools setup and recording the show. The sound guy recorded the lasta show on his laptop, but apparently the sound quality wasn't good, so they're bringing in the experts. Cool! So once things are mastered I should have some nice clips of the Shuttle 3.0 ministack in a Hendrix / Stevie Ray / John Mayer type of band, with my fretless Stingray 5.

Plus it's always nice to get called back ... ;)

1. Fretlessboy is the guy for WT400/550 vs Shuttle 6.0 comparisons. Maybe he'll chime in with some details. I know he posted in some thread that he likes the 6.0 better, but he didn't give details. I played the 6.0 for a while today, but I only have WT330 experience in the Eden world, rather than 400/550.

2. no idea.

3. Roger Hart (TB hasbeen) has said that the 12" in the combo is more mid-focused and aggressive, more growly (Roger, please correct me if I'm misremembering your description ... i don't want to misquote you). The Neox112t has a bit of mid focus, but is very full in the low end too. Personally, without hearing the 12" combo, I would think that a Neox112t would round things out very well, giving more low end extension. Also, though, the 12" cab that's in the combo is not offered as an extension cab anyway ...

Hopefully some more folks, particularly with direct WT400/550 experience, and experience with other cabs as you request in point #2 ...

I thought I already did the comparison some where. Anyway, in my humble opinion there IS NO COMPARISON. The 6.0 is warmer lighter and louder than the 400 or 550. To me it (6.0) sounds better and is easier to use.The tone is clear/tight and focused and it handles a low B with out grief in any way. I will only run to 4 ohms (like the 400). It is 600 watts at 4 ohms which is %50 more power than the 400. It's 50 watts more than the 550 at 4 ohms... but it is way lighter.


What does the 6.0 combo sound like? I don't know. What does the 6.0 sound like with a neoX112T / dual neoX112T's or a neoX212? absolutely F'ing amazing.




The comments above are my personal experiences, your findings may very, offer not valid after 1/30/2010 use may induce headaches,loose fillings and a tingling fealing in your legs.

excuse me but thats Bull, Ghost notes from a tube, are you kidding ?
I have a amp with no microphonics, its running on 260 volts.
It sounds very good and its has amazing dynamics.
other amps with tubes i tryed where not even close.

With the cirquit you can influence how the tube behaves, but the voltage is simlipifed like the rail power on a class D amp, if the power is low less comes out - dynamics.

I can answer your second question. I have the Shuttle 6.0 and I am running it through
2 Bergantino HS210's and the tone of this amp through the Berg's is amazing. The settings on the Shuttle are at 12 o'clock except the low setting which is at 2.

I filled in last night for a friends R&B, Motown band and the Shuttle was great. Then on a whim I just bumped the mids to 2 o'clock with the other settings left as noted above and using my P Bass I was in Ol School heaven:hyper:

And to think, I went from a 55 pound rack system to a 3 1/2 pound head and no loss of usable volume or tone. This is a no brainer :D

A question about the aux input on the shuttle 600.

Does the signal from the aux in come out the DI output?

Presumably the when the switch on the DI is switched to pre the DI output has not been routed through the valve?

Hey bro! I did my first gig last night with the Shuttle 6.0 and my Epifani UL310. Man, that amp and the Epifani were just awesome! I've been wanting more vintage growl and fuller low end to my sound. The Shuttle Delivers! The low end seemed to have more punch, growl, attitude, balls and character compared to my LMII. (The LMII with nothing to compare to sounds great and it's never left me wanting for power or headroom. But it leans toward a cleaner/more sparkly modern sort of SS tone.)

I can't tell you how the Shuttle 6.0/Epi UL310 rig would compare to the AE410. Obviously the AE410 is more likely louder and more aggressive. But I was so totally pleased with the Shuttle 6.0 and the Epifani.

I played in a loud trio last night a resort/night club that we frequent every month. Our guitarist plays a Strat through a Vox AC30. Drummer is on a big kit of Gretch Renown Maple drums. Guitar amp is mic'd, Drums have one overhead mic and a kick drum mic. I play without PA support. Our sound was loud, with a very full dance floor. We did a bunch of Steely Dan, SRV, Tom Petty, Motown/funk covers and played pretty loud. We are all over the map. We even do "I want you back" by Michael Jackson, a couple Earth, Wind and Fire tunes, and some classic old pop/funky covers. And of course the overplayed, but always cool "Chameleon". (All funked out)
The Shuttle was not uber clean or sparkly, but I honestly prefered the character and tonal warmth with it's very sweet top end that is not overly accentuated.

I had the shuttle Master Vol at 12 o'clock, input tube gain at 11 o'clock for some mild red light / clip flashing. Lows at 2-3 o'clock. Everything else flat. It was loud and I thought the B string was particularly more focused, yet deep and full than it normally is with my LMII.

Again, my band mates really like the way the Shuttle 6.0 sounded in the mix. Bass was my Nordy Vj5 (Ash/maple/Big Splits/Audere pre)

The Shuttle 6.0 and Epifani UL310 (S2) is a winner. In fact, it is easing my desire to check out the Bergie AE series cabs I liked it so well. (Granted, if I got to A-B the Shuttle with Epi versus Bergantino AE series cabs, I might have a different preference) But considering my goals are to keep my load-in/load-out nice and back friendly, the Shuttle 6.0 and EpiUL310 is a heavyweight sound in a lightweight/user-friendly package. I think you'll love it!
