Genz Benz Streamliner, Part 10

Funny how we hear things differently. Last night I had a rain shortened gig--P Bass with rounds, SL900, Bag End S15D stack. Tone all the way open most of the time. I thought it was smooth, creamy, and old school.

I had a fellow bass player comment after the gig on how modern my sound was. lol

Had a similar experience recently. Same setup but into a Bergantino HT112ER. Had that surround-sound warm bath feeling. Next day a friend send a short video clip from the gig - bass solo - and the bas sounds modern / punchy. Quite a surprise. Settings at noon but bass backed off to 10 o'clock.

I just sold one of my NeoX 212T's, still have one. Bought a new NX2-212T recently, it'll punch your heart real good. Still haven't made a direct comparo btw my two GB cabs so can't speak to that. But I feel the newer NX2 might be tighter, more mid punch and still gobs of low end and loud as hell.

I've mostly used a P5 and Streamliner 900 or Shuttle 9.2 with my cab. Only one gig back in May. NX2= LOUD! Got 3-4 gigs in July so I'll try to use each cab, different heads and basses to compare.

Used my Streamliner 900 and NX2 212T at a gig last night.
Sound guy told me that the DI sounded great, but he had no need for it as the NX2 cab was more then enough for the room.

I love this set up. I have killer tone, more the enough amp for most scenarios, and the lightest equipment in the band!

The Streamliner and my Neox 212t are the perfect match in my opinion. Small, light, and LOUD. I'm very satisfied with this rig.

I'm seeing more positive feedback about the STM900 -> NX2-212T. Cool, it looks like Genz Benz really got it right with this cab. Ed Friedland also seems to be a fan - really like his demos.

I just missed buying your custom made 212 cab recently. I turned around and ordered this NX2-212T cab shortly thereafter.

5StrPkt: Can you speak, based on specs of each cab, how the NX2 mighta compared to the custom 212 you had?

The detailed specs of those Faital 12's made for Genz Benz are proprietary but if I had to make an educated guess I'd think those Faitals would be a bit fatter in the lows and more even in the upper mids. Those 3012HO drivers need the lows and low mids boosted and the upper mids tamed to sound balanced. Both cabs handle lots of power and could keep up with most gigs I've ever done. I like how my custom 212 turned out but think the NX2 might sound good with a wider variety of amps.

The 3012HO has nothing to do with the drivers used in the original NeoX series. Drawing conclusions based on this would be inaccurate at best.

I haven't heard the new NX2, but I understand the new one with the Faitals is an improvement over the NeoX version. And that is saying something cause the NeoX is a fantastic cab. I love mine!

But I really dig the sound without the gain boost for the first time really. And I'm digging the ceramic drivers after coming from a deltalite and a celestion bn300x, I like the more solid feel of these relatively heavy cabs.

Here's what im running tonight. Genz Streamliner into a couple Greenboy cabs. Gain in for some slight overdrive and everything sounds good. ...well theres some effects in the chain too. ;-)

I finally tried my 900 with an ampeg 810 today. Holy blow your eardrums out Batman! I used my normal settings, gain button out - and wow! You could easily blow a wall down with this setup. Well, maybe not... but it was something else. My back will never let me own an 810 again, but if you havent tried this setup you are missing out.

I've been running my 600 through an old mesa road ready 2x15 and it had such a classic tone. If I close my eyes I swear it's my old v4b on steroids. Only downside is there isn't much benefit of pairing a six pound amp with a 150 pound cab.
