Genz Benz Streamliner, Part 10

well, looks like I'll probably be buying a new head. My cab wasn't setting solid in the car and it rolled over on top of the head. The Genz Benz light won't come on. All other lights come on but I have no sound. I brought it into the shop hoping I broke a tube but they didn't think so and if its not a tube they said its probalby serious cash. I have a tryout for a band on monday too.

Bummer. That happened to my cat once.

More than likely repairable at a reasonable cost by a more factory oriented service approach. I've done more than a few.

a used one is $450ish. The things I've heard about you here if you can do it for under that its probably worth it as I'll probably get it back in like new condition. So I'll pack it up and wait for you to respond to my email with your address. Thanks for your help.

I have sent two Genz amps into them that I bought used - both times, I was very happy with the end results... I would strongly recommend that you go to them for service of any of their products - you won't regret it...

I had 2 gigs friday and saturday and learned something really cool about my Streamliner. My lady shot both nights of performance for game tape to check out afterward.

What i thought was a warm and fat tone actually sounded kinda honky and high-mid heavy when i watched friday's performance. I usually run the 10-2-10 setting (B,M,T) with my mids at 600. So i switched the mid to 2.5k and went with a 10-12-10 setting and voila!!! Much more warmth and less honky high mid!! I'm guessing i was actually cutting the higher mid that was giving me that honk. It sounded so much better last night. Of course, both soundmen gave me a rave review of the DI too..

This little amp continues to amaze me.

Ok, so I'm slowly working my way through the 9000 previous posts in this thread series, but in the meantime I'll just ask: do NL2FC Speakons work with the Streamliner 900? I got an entirely new rig consisting of a STL900 and a pair of Beg End S15's (one standard one the "x" model with the co-ax tweeter) and when I connected them with a speaker cable terminated with the old 2 pole Speakons nothing happened. Used an NL4FX to banana and it fired right up. I noticed that it specifies 4 pole on the back of the amp, but I've also heard Bag End's have non-standard wiring on some of their Speakon jacks. I had a huge "Oh no!" moment when I connected my (untested) amp to my (untested) cabs and had no sound...

This was the cable I used with that amp + my Schroeder cab - hope it helps.

All of our amp and speaker products use 1+/1- only. Either an NL-2 or NL-4 will work as long at it's wired 1+ to 1+ and 1- to 1-

Thanks agedhorse. I double checked, including throwing a meter in it and checking continuity and it's definitely wired correctly. Must just be the cabs, I hear their speakons are wired differently than one would expect.

So, next question. Anyone that uses one of these also use an fdeck hpfpre? I had planned to get one when I was using a pre+pa amp into a fearful rig, but not sure if one is needed or beneficial on a Streamliner? Thoughts?

I find all the Genz heads VERY well controlled in the sub sonics, so I would see little need (especially if you are using the Bag Ends) as a true 'hi pass sub sonic' sort of application. If you move back to your fEARful type cabs, it might be a useful 'tone control' to tighten up the low end to have more punch and definition (i.e., to use it as a variable low end cut off... a better shelving bass control).

Totally gotta boost those mids. It's interesting how different the bass sounds soloed and in a band mix. Gotta boost those mids in the mix

I just used my GB Streamliner on a session i did in LA.. Only Preamp out to board... It was a fly date that turned me onto a thing to record later that day at a friends. I only flew with one piece my GB and not the REDDI..

The ST900 is a great quality Preamp too.. I didnt run XLR out, instead we ran the preamp out post EQ... fantastic and quiet too!
