Genz Benz Streamliner, Part 10

Yup
Totally gotta boost those mids. It's interesting how different the bass sounds soloed and in a band mix. Gotta boost those mids in the mix

I was actually cutting the high mid. I got rid of the honk i was referring to. I havent had to boost any mids to cut just fine.

Looks/sounds like you just changed the mid frequency and then boosted it as compared to your previous setting. 10-2-10 old way. 10-12-10 new setting.

Yes, that is the setting, but i went from 2:00 to 12:00 thats a cut not a boost (picture a clock, you go backwards from 2:00 to 12:00). If you read the stl tone primer thread 10-2-10 (Bass, Mid, Treble) was considered "flat" based on the tone circuit. Therefore in theory taking my mid down to 12:00 is a cut. Im doing it at a higher frequency (2.5k as opposed to 600), which is getting rid of the high-mid honk.

Oh. I didn't catch on to the o'clock sense. My brains been a little mushy lately.
So your cutting your mids? It cuts through in a live mix?

Played my first bar gig with my STM600, was an awesome experience. I wasn't around when the sound guy hooked up the DI cable, but he apparently said, "whoa, a Cadillac." I ended up getting most of my sound through the house mix, and it was verrry nice.

This thread has gone whisper quiet, guess we're all just satisfied with our Streamliners.

Pretty much.

Played our monthly regional country music opry last week. New sound guy made a digital video/audio recording. I ran direct out of the SL900. Got a fantastic "studio" sound from the SL. Tone was superb. Winner!

I've been using my STL900 in a hiphop band paired with a fEarful 15/6/1 recently. This rig held up great in my rock band, but the amount of instrumentation in this band leads to a very loud stage volume, despite everyone playing at semi-reasonable levels. I'll be adding a 15sub to bring the total impedance down to 4 ohms, and hopefully add enough extra oomph that I won't have to run the STL900 with the clip light coming on more than I'd like.

Just a reminder, its not a "clip" light like other amps. Nothing is being limited when the light comes on, its just an indication that the tubes/power section is going into overdrive.

To some, the light means its "just right".

Thanks for the reminder. I am well aware of its function, but a low overdrive sound really works better for this project. I'm having to push it a little too hard under an 8 ohm load with the 15/6/1 to keep it in that clean and wide, but still warm tonal area. If I could get by with a dirtier sound in this band, I wouldn't need the additional cab.

I did a 3 pc gig last week with an old Chicago blues man using my 900/TB153 cab/Am St P5. I had my usual SVT settings, master at 11-noon. He keeps yelling at me to turn up. No instruments thru small PA; just 2x15's on sticks.

So I switch to Pre/Vol @ 2:00, button engaged, Bass@2:00,Mid@3:00. Master Vol @ 2:00. Never used this much knobs on my 900 before. He liked it better; I didn't. But no light was flashing and no speaker breakup or tube overdrive happened.

So it worked for this small club. But bigger club next week, same setup as before. This time I'm taking my new GB NX-2 212T cab, STM900 but may take my active, modern 5er this time to get more of what I need.

I go back and forth between the Streamliner 900 and my Mesa M-pulse 600, both are great amps, IMO... I bought an EWI roadcase for my Streamliner, so it can stay in the band trailer with a tuner and wireless setup - so, I'll be using it exclusively for the next few gigs...

I do take other micro/mini heads with me to most gigs. But the STM-900 just always seems to sound best at all those different rooms after trying the alternate head(s) at sound check.

So the 900's been getting the call for gigs. It just does it best for me using several different cabs but mostly a P5 bass.

I've got a few sweet amps, including a couple of tube heads, but the Streamliner remains in my gig rig rotation. It's certainly my first choice where I'm playing a venue where random liquid entering into a tube cage is a risk.

And, it's the perfect headphone practice rig for the living room, because of the aux in and tuner out.

Hey Chris! I've got a STL900 too. I'm looking into cabs for it, would you mind if I tried your fEarful setup sometime soon?
