Genz Benz Streamliner; Part 4

Streamliner 900 arrived in Aberdeen today :hyper:

Studio tomorrow (will report on Monday) :hyper:

Gig Skinz bag on back order because manufactuer can't appear to differentiate *rsehole from elbow. Bass Direct have been chasing back order for months. Looks like my bag is on a boat somewhere between China and (I'm guessing) Holland. :crying:

Two out of three ain't bad (is there nothing Meatloaf can't teach us) and I've got laptop bags that can probably tide me over until then.

Had to post a pic for fun of the 600

That sure is a weird looking cab underneath it.
:hiding:

I've just had my first soundcheck with the 900. It's a lovely gig I know well, but not a great room acoustically speaking. It has a big, wallowy, boomy low-end.. It's always a tough room.

SL900? Roll the bass back a bit, drop the mid to 200hz, give it a generous bump... Whoa! Round, punchy fatness!

More after the gig...

That's exactly what I did in the same sonic environment. Wonderful set of features with few actual knobs!

+1 The interaction with the bass control and the 220hz (or whatever it is) low mid setting is the best I've experienced in a preamp. My old Glock Heartrock, and also the Carvin B1500 I had on a trial basis did a pretty good job of this, with the 'lo bass, bass, upper bass' sort of controls. But, the Streamliner pre allows even more control... always fat, but easy to control the 'boom versus punch' with those two knobs. Totally dig it!

Crank it up and have fun tonight, and post up in the morning. I will have mine out next Saturday with the Nordy P and a relatively large band in a relatively large room with no PA support. So, that will be a nice test.

Maybe I missed them, but did you ever record clips of your ash/maple/single coil 'orange bomber' Sadowsky? Your Pbass clips SOLD me of course, being a diehard P guy, but as I find myself adding a J in the stable just to have 'that sound' I"m curious as to how it'll match up with the Streamliner.

The Sadowsky is in another location at the moment, but I do have a short clip of my Alleva-Coppolo LM (ash/maple) J with the Streamliner and my little Thunderchild cab up on Youtube. It sounds very nice to me... plenty of brightness and grind, but still very fat and warm. Its the first clip that comes up when you access my Youtube channel from the link in my sig.

I saw that clip and am holding back AC-GAS. I also think it's great that you have hi-end bass gear spread out in different locations!!

That A-C is totally killin'! I'm still doing some of those fly-ins to St. Louis to gig, so have a rig and bass there. I had the A-C there for about a year, but swapped it out with the Sadowsky for a bit of a change-up!

The ability to manage tough rooms is one of the greatest challenges and tests of a good amp (and cab). I don't think I can overstate that.

This is very good news to hear.

Hey Streamliner fans. Just got mine delivered today. I'm a newbie when it comes to gear with tubes. I'm used to just turning on my solid state combo to grab 5 minutes of practice here and there whenever I can, then turning it off again until the next time. Would I be hurting the Streamliner if I did that? If I'm going to be practicing off and on in 10-15 minute snatches during the course of a few hours, should I just leave it on until I'm done for the night?

I personally would leave it on. Power cycling is the enemy of electronic devices. Since preamp tubes don't "age" like power amp tubes, I think it is better to just leave it powered up. At gigs I don't shut down my amps between sets, I just mute them.

I decided to pull the trigger on a Streamliner 900! Looking forward to some major Oooomph! :hyper: Looks like I snagged the last one of the last shipment from Rocket Music... should be here Monday.

That's going to match up with the Berg AE212 which also recently arrived. Should cure my GAS for the time being. :D:D

Really excited about my next practice, and upcoming gigs!

Woooo! Got up to practice and hooked up the 600 to my cabs and BOOM!!! Works like a champ. To make a long story short I was really worried because last practice my new speakers were farting and no cooperating but seems my old Hartke HA3500 was the problem.

This thing pushes my 600w 4x10 and 160w 1x15 no problem. Can't wait to hear it tonight with the rest of the band playing.

Thanks for all the input from everyone on this head its been a very big help. Thanks talkbass buddies! :)
