Somewhere on this thread Jeff speaks about LEDs on switches interfering with the basic AMP channel switching. I get one in that I modify so as to work with the MG800.

Yep, I remember reading that. I'm hoping because the ES-5 is considerably more than a basic LED equipped footswitch, that it will work OK.

I guess I'll be the first one to try, and report back to the group!

Yep...The Apex footswitch that I get has the LED in Parallel.
Not familiar with the sophisticated one inquired about, but have doubts.

I ran the MG-800 through 3 12's yesterday with an Alpha-Omega Ultra pedal and decided to crank it up and just have a moment of joyous edgy expression which turned into about 10 min of expression lol. I do not think you will be disappointed in the MG800's ability to take raunchy distortion into the 12s. I shook the building and probably made small dogs run, but man was it fun.

I have run my MG-800 => triple BA12-3 stack with a variety of overdrive/distortion pedals (and some octave/synth pedals), and it just kills! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :thumbsup:

My perception/guess was that either would shake everything off the walls if cranked wide open. Both would get louder than my ears could take - I didn't measure SPL. I felt more "gut punch" with the 410. Also more "quickness". I liked the low end of the 12s. Both had smooth mid/highs but something is to be said for a contiguous array like in the BA410-3; perhaps a bit more pronounced smooth mid/high? Difficult to say as I was using the Alpha-Omega jacked pretty well. If given my personal choice, AND I was willing to take 3 different cabs, I would have to go with the 12s - but remember I am already psychoacoustically biased towards them. If I wanted a one-cab solution I would take the BA410-3. If someone else was providing a backline I would be happy to play through either and believe I could adjust most any amp to get MY sound out of either setup.

edit: I DO believe it would be easier to carry the 410 versus the three 12s (but not two 12s) and if I were a bit younger OR if I played pro and needed that kind of power, I would have a BA410-3. If I keep thinking about it, I may end up with one anyway.

When Phil Maneri and I were playing through all the Genzler cabs at NAMM, we were definitely impressed with all of them. What really stood out is that the different stacks sounded very different when we switched players. Phil sounded way better through the 410, vs two 210's, and I definitely sounded better through two 210's vs the 410. My final conclusion was that for my personal preferences, the BA12-3 is absolutely the way to go (especially with an SLT or two thrown into the mix). I think for Phil, the BA410-3 was the best fit.

I don't have a lot of pedals, and I am relatively noobie when it comes to them, BUT I have been using a Dark Glass Vintage Microtubes with my 12-3 stack and my Monique, and it sounds awesome. At my setting of choice, it doesn't really distort the tone, but just enhances the growl and tone that is already there. The 12-3 stack absolutely does kill and reproduces the effect beautifully!

In my live playing I am the same way. Anytime I have used pedals, which nowadays isn't much, it is just to add that little bit of growl. Although when noodling/messing around it IS fun to go to the outer limits. The last time I actually used any effects was last year when I did a blues gig and I added a tube pre just for the heck of it. I liked it fine but really didn't think it worth the trouble.

This is my conclusion as well. It can be resoldered but really I see no need. The footswich itself is quite functional.

Depends on if you want to turn around to see what your amp is up to.

Having it light up like any and all of your effects pedals let's you know at a glance where you're at and if you need to switch it off before the next song...

Yes, player preference. I don't use a pedalboard and find it easier to glance at the amp - although usually no problem in hearing the difference so I know where I am usually without looking.

This is a useful observation. For those chasing tone there is no Holy Grail but many good options to select your own best fit from. The problem with this is the lack of desirable inventory within reasonable driving distance to check out. Videos are good but to be useful the sound quality has to be good and the player has to showcase a tone and style representative of the way you play.

I came from the higher end acoustic guitar world where it is almost always the case that you can't try out what you believe you want in advance. I play Lowdens. In that world they are a medium size company and currently build a total of about 500 guitars a year for the entire world. The likelihood of finding the size/shape and wood combination you're looking for in a shop near enough to audition it is almost nil. Having multiple different options nearby that you think might be something you might like and so want to audition is even less likely. So... you do your homework as best you can and make an educated guess. Given the general quality of the guitars, if you know basically what you are looking for and a Lowden is it, you make a choice and it will make you happy.

I think the same thing is true here. While it may indeed be that a 410-3 will work better for some of us than 2 210-3's and 2 12-3's is best yet or 3 10-2's really is the icing on the cake, I think it is reasonable to expect that having done the best homework we can, having decided that a bass array cab is it, we will be happy with our purchase. I know that I am. I bought both of my cabs - a 12-3 and a 10-2 - without having played them (or the others I was considering) in advance.

I am a fanboy but I wouldn't hesitate to buy any Genzler (or older Genz Benz) product cold. I haven't used anything but for a LONG time because I've been happy and it lasts. I got rid of my Shuttle 3.0 to "upgrade" too the Magellan 350 combo not because my Shuttle was bad or worn out, but I just saw new stuff and wanted a change.
