Does it matter? WELLLLL,....Any two will do and the 3rd is a charm.
I like this setup.

Does the third add mych though? Visually stunning but each speaker gets less power...

Volumewise likely not much but with the third coupling you should get an even deeper freq. response and probably better dispersion with both the lo freq speakers in an array as well as the now 12 mid-tweets in array...

Anyone running 3 care to comment? I will likely get a third cab end of summer once i have some gig mobey to burn. :)

Gig money to burn? Does that mean you passed the audition?

I guess the way I would put it is MORE. Really, as far as volume goes, it is difficult to see, at least in my own case, needing more than 2. The dispersion is there, the sound is there. Adding the third does bring one closer to the ear so it makes it a bit easier to hear, and certainly the coupling increases SPL potential and does make it feel BIGGER in all dimensions. To me, “bigger” is the best way I could explain three 12s versus 2. And it looks...authoritative to have a stack of 3 12s, intimidating even. I think the big stack guitarists shrink a bit when they see the bass player with a stack of 3 12s

I have posted numerous times about my love for the 3xBA12-3 stack, and I have also have one SLT and have gigged with this cab thrown in with two regular BA12-3's. This is definitely my preferred configuration. The SLT does add some clarity and tightness, relative to the BA12-3 (which is a tad more warm/full). They really play so nicely together. I'd love to try two SLT's with one BA12-3.

I also think this is probably the "best" arrangement for 3 cabs stacked. BUT, this mixture (1 STL and 2 STR) does give you a variety of options and it could easily change from room to room.

My preference when using 2 BA cabs I prefer the SLT on the bottom and STR on top. This gives both baffles a 6 degree slant and keeps them in the same plane for projection. All of this is certainly personal preferences....

@Jeff Genzler Finally have another big room big gig with PA support this coming Friday. Subbing for a bass brethren for a top 40/pop/dance in a packed club. Going to give your preference of my SLT on bottom first with the STR on top. Looking forward to it. Gig report to follow. Also I added an Empress compressor to the mix which seems in my practice room to just add to my set up.

Been busy and havn't have much time for TB.... but this deserve a little post:

new venue here in socal, good PA, but terrible lively room with a lot of "slapback" allover the stage especially with the drummer digging in! I did set up my MG800+MG212 and had to crank low and cut mids for the sound check, but has soon as the PA opened and subs kicked in, I disappeared in the mix... cut low around 10oclock (never done this in my entire musician's life) and boosted the low mids 150-200hz about 2/3oclock, everything else flat, gain just below clipping and master around 2oclock (again, first time ever I boost the master past noon!).... bam! very present in the mix and balanced with the rest of the band!!!
Gotta give credit to my new little magic box, a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] HPF (!), who saved the night cutting the nasty lows out of the subs (was set around 50-60hz)...

GENZLER for life!

Like Jeff, this is my preference as well for two cabs. However, for three, I am digging slt, str, slt. Not really sure in a live band situation just how much a person could tell if someone walked up and swapped them while your back was turned.

Was at practice tonight and finally remembered to snap a proper pic!

I've been a LONG time user of the SansAmp BDDI (currently using V2) I only use it as a clean preamp...I tried running without it tonight, I was able to get the MG800 about 95% of the way to that tone, and probably can get nearly 100% with just a little more knob fiddling...certainly close enough to take it off the board, something no amp has allowed me to do up to this point...so this weekend, pedalboard re-do! (After an outdoor music festival gig Friday).

Tom, thanks once again for flaming my GAS in this thread! I should know better by now NOT to read your posts, but like the proverbial moth to the flame, I must know what I am missing. :eyebrow::help::rollno::laugh::thumbsup:

If you stacked 3 SLT's, would the top cab be stable?

Yes, very stable. The BA12-3 cabs are deep enough that stability is not an issue. And if you use our MG-800 (anti skid feet) or similar designed amp with tall rubber feet the amp will stay on top of the 3rd cab if you use a cable routing procedure like we show on our website.

Personally i would route the input cable that way as well and have it come out under the bottom cab. It's unlikely you'll pull the head off the top but it will prevent that and it looks cleaner. Hell i did it that way with my svt and later my trace. Neither of these were going anywhere but i didn't want my bass unplugging from the amp either...
