I will also suggest another 12-3. It is taller than the 610 would be, and it is not lacking for anything in sound or punch. Just don’t forget to switch the impedance switch to 2.67 ohms

I’m going to suggest - turn up your mids a bit...

even with a Marshall stack you should be able to hear yourself. I love my stuff loud and on stage I almost never get up past 9-10 o’clock- that’s with 2 12-3’s one a slant and one str.

Are use using a Magellan 800? If so, why not add a BA12-3 SLT to run 3 cabs @ 800 watts / 2.67ohm.

I love my BA12-3/BA12-3 SLT/BA12-3 stack! And I still find that when I add a third BA12-3 (standard or SLT), it really makes the rig "pop!"

My situation is different so I don’t know that my opinion matters. I don’t need a ridiculously loud amp. I have the MG Tall 12 with a 350. It's all the sound I need for my gigs. I used to have a BA12-3 but not at the same time so I can’t compare. I’ve never had my amp past 1/2 but I’m playing jazz gigs. I know I can push my B strong through this rig no problem. I play outside often with it. I can actually feel my bass with this combo.Pretty nice.

I have to say I loved the sound of the 4 3" speakers in the 12-3 but feel the bass might be stronger in the MG12TV. I guess I'm worried about the potential brightness of the tweeter in the TV cabinet vs. the 4 3" mids. I know everything is a trade off. Having heard the 12-3, I know I would be happy. I just wonder if I'd be happier with the MG12TV.

Hey all...I'm playing a lot more loud rock these days with little (no) support from PA/FoH. Bar stuff with loud Marshalls.

I'm finding my two 12-3s don't cut through as much as I would like. Might just be me (always open to a little self introspection). I'm thinking of a 410 + 210 solution. Has anyone gone from the 12s to the 10s and might be able to provide some insight? I'm not planning on keeping 4 cabinets but like a small tote around so I might want to either keep a 12 or get a single 10 as well.

when I was disappointed with the volume I was getting with my mg800 into the two 12-3, it turned out I had the ohm selection switch in the wrong spot lol. I somehow moved it when bagging the amp I guess. Put it where it belonged, and have defeated my drummer in the volume wars! Haha just kidding, but now everything is cool with it.

Yeah, I was thinking too, like those above, that you may benefit from another cabinet... Go down to 2 ohms.

I recall with my first Genzler setup, the combo, that I couldn't hear it among two guitarists in a Rock setting. Listening back to a recording from a single mic in the room I could pick it out. Two things then, one, just because you can't hear it doesn't mean the crowd can't. And two, I bought 2 12-3's to go under the combo and I can now hear myself.

But in the event you decide to go with a different setup I might take a 12-3 off your hands. We can take it to PM's if so.

I've thought about a/an SLT which would do a few things: point the rig more at my ears, get it down to 2 ohms, and look oh so cool. I've gone from pretty tall rigs to just the two 12s and the fact that it's pointing at my butt, even with the arrays, makes it a little harder to hear even up close.

You know, that's an interesting suggestion. I tend to be a mid scoop guy and that combined with a scooped bass probably contributes to this. I will try that next time out. Thanks for the advice!

I was using my BA12-3 with a Shuttle 9.0 and upgraded to the Magellan. I had been very happy with the shuttle but the Magellan is in another class altogether. Depending upon what you've been using for a head, you very well may find the Magellan as much an upgrade as was the cab. That little rig is more than enough for any setting I play and sounds phenomenal.

I have no problems with the performance of the 12-3 and my low B...

I just received a slightly used BA 12-3 and it does sound great.... except for the low B. Its not as tight as I expected and there is some noise coming from it at certain frequencies.... Low D on the B string specifically. Im using a magellan 800 with it and never turn it up past noon.... wondering if the magellan 800 , even at 1/2 power is too much for this cab??

You might consider using a HPF. It might be the cab, but more likely an unfriendly harmonic in the area.

My 2 cents. I have owned the mg212t, and played the 12-3 cab. Ive owned and built all types of multi-driver cabs. For me, using mid loaded cabs sounded clearer and had better horizontal dispersion but, never sounded like a "bass" cab. I use a column array pa and can attest that they have wide horiznral coverage but, the mids better be at ear level, or you wont hear them, due to fovused vertical control. Narrow vertical dispersion. Several stacked mids definitely will throw your sound farther into a room, as long as they arent at butt level, or at least tilted up. I found that at gigs, using a rig with drivers all the same size, run fullrange just sounded right in a mix, had more character, the mids found their place naturally, and with less eq. So, I had better luck with the mg112t with tweet turned off than the 12-3. Today, I use a pair of bag end s15d cabs. Each run with its own mg800 head. One for lows, one for highs with added grit. It cuts like nothing else and feels good. If need be, I can run them both or, a 3rd (I have 3 cabs) mono with great results. In theory, 15's won't have good horizontal coverage but, in a crowded room, with mic bleed, etc, you end up with just as good results, using mid drivers or not. Its a wash. Go with what sounds good and what you can carry.
