Frankly, either one would be a good choice but you really should try them both because one may suit your personal tastes over the other. Nobody can accurately predict your preferences.

I know it’s a matter of taste, but I prefer the Magellan tone over the Subway. I compared them years ago and preferred the Genzler. A couple months ago, I got a subway 800 on trade and compared them again. Sold the subway. And the fan is so quiet. It’s not an issue.

I tried both the D800 and the Magellan- both are great amps and I’m sure you can make them sound the same…

I just liked how quickly you could dial in a good tone with the contour knob on the Magellan. It’s hard to get a bad tone out of it actually.

if I never tried the Magellan, I’m sure I would own the d800 and be very happy with it.

OK, you might want to put your name on an Acoustic Array PRO once they are available. They have all of the features you mention above and would be a nice amp for Acoustic Bass----offering you the additional channel for mic use. This is described as an Acoustic Guitar combo but design for a wide range of acoustic instruments. You should hear it with a violin and cello. Handles upright for most average duty as well. For pure double bass use I would stay with the MG350-BA10-COMBO.

Is there any difference between how transparent, uncolored and full range the Acoustic Bass Array is, VS. the Magellan 350 combo with the controls flat? In other words, are the amps voiced differently to favor acoustic vs electric bass? I'm trying to decide between the two for use with both electric and upright and weighing the pros and cons. thanks!

I don't they are voiced to favor either acoustic or electric. The speaker in the combo is a bass array cabinet.

The Acoustic Array amp has quite a different feature set, but you could use a Genzler pre amp with it to get the best of both worlds.

If you do want the preamp feature set of the acoustic combo, you should contact Gollihur Music and consider the AA-PRO-GOL version we make for them which does have the same 10" Neo woofer used in the BA10-2-S2 bass cab. Mark Gollihur can also provide his insight as to how many players use this combo for doubling. PM me and I can assist further.

First gig for my BA2 15-3 last night. Larger Restaurant/bar with acoustic guitar, violin and vocals.

No bass in the PA.

I spend a lot of time low, emphasizing the guitar's hammer-ons at the end of chords and re-enforcing violin and vocal's counter melody giving a slight push to keep everything moving.

The 15-3 excelled at this. Everything down the B string felt big, responsive and clear.

Hearing yourself this well makes it easier to be agile and get out of the way or pop up and help drive into a more powerful chorus line.

I find I am using compression less. I think this is due to the more predictable response of the cab. I can better trust my EQ and fingers. With more control of my dynamics I am able to accompany the acoustic instruments in a natural feeling way.

The 15-3 felt good. I could not feel better about it's performance last night.

I have owned a ton of amps (more like 20 tons)I had my go-to Magellan 800/210-3 last night on a gig, I have played 20 years with the same band. One of my guys said as we were packing up OMG that amp just sounds incredible. I am amazed with this gem.

If you squint, you can see my mg350 mini rig of doom looking tiny but feeling mighty on this oversized stage holding court just to the right of the drums. unnecessary for front of house but sounded good on that stage. The low-mid aggressiveness of the MGT-V cabs slotted nicely with the other stage sounds.
