Just got my 3rd magellan head to use while healing up. What I've said in the past is still true. It's the overall best of the heap in class d. That said, if it had a real high headroom tube preamp, and a second mid band and hp filter instead of the drive and contour circuits, it just may be the best amp on the market, period. Would that be possible or, maybe already in the works? And hey, I'm available to beta test, free of charge!

What in the holy hell do you need three of them for? Granted, this is coming from a guy with four BA12-3 cabs, but still.

Sold the other two and went back to class ab. But, had shoulder/biceps surgery 6 weeks ago and need a light rig for the foreseeable future.

Today I ran a few tube preamps both into the fx return and into the front end. The tone and feel definitely were improved for my preferences. It just sucks to use multiples devices to get where I want. Again, great amp, I'd just love to see it step up with at least a real deal tube preamp. The shuttle tube preamp wasn't in the same league as an alembic f2b or ampeg svp-cl.

I run Passive P and J basses most of the time.. My active basses, i Bypass the preamps..
I run almost Flat most times. I may add a little bass.. and depending on the gig, I may dial my Mid Freq to 3k and add a few db..
I've used both A and B contours.. It Depends. On some troublesome and boomy stages, I found that the Contour with the YELLOW Light seems to tidy it up ..

Is anyone rocking classic type tones with old school passive basses into the Magellan 800?
How are your results?
What have been some good eq points to start with?
Do you find yourself using the second contour or drive at all?

I'm still waiting on mine, just curious what fellow TBers are doing with theirs!

So funny enough I was actually going to post this anyway today. I use an active bass but I was just amazed at the crazy old school thump and growl I was getting with these settings. I turned off the unit so the lights aren't on but it's using clean and B. Pedals were off. Might have had a bit of compression but that's it. You should be able to make out the settings. 2 stack of 12-3BA

I've been using that Eden Tube stomp box to give me a little of that tube pre feel when I want it.

Nice set up!! About this discussion, I would also recommend trying the DRIVE channel but keeping it more clean than driven. This is another option for the old school thump and growl. Remember the more you increase the GAIN level in the DRIVE channel the more you raise the HPF and taper the top end. That with some minimal to medium Contour B might introduce some interesting yester-year tone. All of this is dependent upon your instrument of course. A Pbass style with flats is what I would be considering here.

I do not like drive channels and like others thought I would never use it, but yours is great. It is not just fuzz/distortion it puts a neat something to the notes and I use it all the time now.

Reposting because I enjoyed this setting so much.

Using just the Contour B at 10:00 and Drive Gain at 12:00 gives a great sound to my Country Western thumpin'.
I was not a fan of having the Drive, but it is not a distortion like other amps, unless full on, even then it is different. It puts in a bit of something that gives a nice uppercut to my below the belt thumpin'. I am no good at describing it, but it was fun.

I finally got to unleash the full rig of doom for our first outdoor gig of the year. These Genzler cabs are just unreal. Even for an outdoor gig with no PA support, four of these is just way overkill. Such tight, deep bass. I love it though!

Thank you, Jeff! I can't compliment your gear enough. They didn't even break a sweat. Speaking of sweat, that fan is just as essential as everything else pictured. Lol! My old Ampeg SVT-410HLF used to sound good for the most part, but it completely fell apart outside. The Arrays remained just as tight and controlled as ever for this gig. I'm still just as impressed as the first time I played through one.

I've been pondering a third BA12-3 to my arsenal, but I can't exactly say my current pair is lacking in ability :$ What are you powering those with?

BTW, love the look of your Dingwall - I just pulled the trigger on an NG-2!

Two Arrays is my standard rig for any indoor gig and you're 100% right, they are never lacking. I do want to try the three high stack sometime soon, just for the sake of having one closer to ear level. It's just that with my rack on top it makes for a kind of an over the top ominous look (says the guy using four ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). Anyway, I'm using a Mesa M9 running happily it seems at 2ohms. Even outdoors the master knob didn't creep above 9 o'clock.

Thank you! I haven't had the pleasure of playing an NG-2 yet, but I've found that the Super series is my comfort zone. You can never go wrong with any Dingwall. Congrats on the NG-2! What color did you go with? I've always been partial to that orange color.

I went with the Black NG-2 .. I was tempted to go with orange or red, but the black one is just so cool
