Question:

Can you give me a little more information regarding the covers you had made for your BA12-3's? I'm deciding on what to do for mine and those TLC's look very, very nice. Can you tell me what the price ended up being including shipping etc? And how long and difficult it was to get them from Australia?


Answer:
It took about 2 weeks to make because they were busy with other orders and then another 4 days shipping but of course I had 6 made. I paid thru PayPal $650AU which is $476.35 USD. A big chunk of that around $107 was shipping. 1 or 2 covers should be substantially less. I paid around $369 for 6 covers a little over $60 for each cover. Not a bad deal! There were no issues at all they shipped them thru a company called EMS post which I suppose is there FedEx in comparison to the USA. The company provided tracking all the way to me and it was 4 days to me in Georgia. Julie was wonderful to work with. Thanks again MichaelOZ. So not to waste my phone bill on overseas calls I just communicated thru email and she was responsive at all time. Keep in mind when it was 12 mid night here they were just getting their day started so it worked out great for me since I'm normally up practicing....a night owl. Rule of thumb is Night here....morning there.

The Aussie Dollar seems to be going up again so prices might increase slightly over the coming weeks.

I paid $AU 93.50 per cover and $16 postage - this is obviously domestic from Sydney to Melbourne. Mind you, it also took 4 days - Australia Post is full of mysteries.

I wasn't able to read all 79 pages of this thread, so I'm hoping someone can answer this. I'm digging the Genzler MG 800 and Bass Array cab, but wonder if it would blow 1 cab. At 8 ohms, it's rated at 400 watts. The Bass Array is rated at 350 watts. With 2 cabs, the Array is 700 watts, but the MG 800 would be 800 watts. So??? Would the amp blow the Array?

The standard answer to this is, "It depends what you do with it." I think you could blow it if you really tried (and there are many threads on this subject) but I'd feel pretty safe playing a "350 W cab" with a 400 W head, and I think that the head and cab(s) in question are made with use together in mind.

I don't think variations like that make any difference, esp. since, as noted, the units were all designed to work together.

These units were designed to perform together so using 1 BA12-3 with the Magellan 800 is not a concern. Like with all of these types of discussions we are assuming the player is using the products within their designed parameters.

These units were designed to perform together so using 1 BA12-3 with the Magellan 800 is not a concern. Like with all of these types of discussions we are assuming the player is using the products within their designed parameters.

had time to take a quick pic of the new cab, but no time to play it yet.
working on learning 50 keys songs for a sub gig in April, and all my time is going into that project.

@Jeff Genzler, some questions about the HPF and signal routing:

You mentioned, I think, that HPF was fairly steep and that the corner frequency was somewhere in the 30s (Hz). Do you know the exact frequency?

Does the HPF apply to the signal one hears in the headphones?

...to the signal fed to the Aux input?
...to the effects send? (if, for instance, one used that to feed a separate poweramp)
...to the D.I. out? (and would that vary, pre- and post- EQ?)

Hello Mark, I can provide additional information to your questions.
The "corner" frequency is 25 Hz which is the -3dB point. It is a 24 dB per octave network. The response is essentially flat from 30 Hz and above.
The ONLY outputs that are NOT impacted by the HPF are the Tuner Out and the D.I. Output (Pre EQ) selection, as the signal for those are taken directly from the INPUT of the preamp.
Now if you are sending a signal into the Aux Input that content would not be impacted by the HPF.
When listening to your bass through the Headphones that signal would have the HPF in the signal chain.

In general regarding HPF's, when designed correctly they are essential to bass amplifier designs at the power levels we are seeing in todays bass amps.
It is critical to protecting LF drivers at these high levels. The by-product and benefits, along with the safety of the LF speaker components, is the clear, uncluttered and tight feel to the lowest frequencies.
We feel the network we are using offers excellent protection along with a very musical experience.

I do hesitate to get too deep in specific numbers in some of these discussions because there is a tendency among some to judge an amp by numbers only, potentially missing an awesome playing experience.

Our #1 design parameter for the Magellan 800 was to offer a uniquely "musical" amplifier and experience along with the various preamp options that allow players to shape the tone of the amp in an intuitive and simple manner.

I have a walkabout head. Currently It is my favorite bass head that i own.. Remarkable tone and bounce. LOVE IT.
