Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Hi all, here's a picture of the first GSR100EXL I donated to the local Salvation Army. Ever since then I've wanted the bass back! The bass I just bought is an identical model to this one. Anyway, tonight after work I removed the strings and released the truss rod completely as suggested by @beans-on-toast to 'normalize' the neck.

Sometime Thursday or Friday I'll restring the bass and gently coax the neck. A good thing is my office is a computer room so it's temperature and humidity is as controlled as a laboratory.

Anyway, the first version of the bass I sold (which I just acquired again last week):

Luckily, the second one I just received is as immaculate as the first one. If you ever see one of these odd guys sitting in a music store please try it out. You'll be amazed at how punchy it sounds. It really reminds me of a Music Man. Growly and aggressive. Even though it's passive!

Did the bass come from an environment with different humidity? Here in the low desert we have dry, and dryer.. really messes up necks that are from normal climates. Anyway - interesting, never tried that. Best to you.

I've never taken a set completely off(unless changing), but I've loosened them to 'floppy' if I know I'm not gonna be playing a particular bass for awhile. Even found an effective way to oil fretboards w/o taking strings off: a piece of wax paper between the strings and the rag/paper towel used to apply fret oil(and the one used to wipe off excess).

Taking the strings off turned out to be advantageous for me anyway. I like light bauge Hartke round wounds and always add them to any basses that come home with me. I'll be applying oil to the fretboard and neck before I restring the bass.

The bass came from L.A. I think it's different enough from Alaska's environs. Hot and dry compared to cool and sometimes humid.

Cooled off by 10 degrees last couple days but the humidity went up a bit. Glad to get past monsoon season - my old Jeep hates it and runs accordingly. Already back under 100* and it’s only 8:30... fine weather
