In the time of the French monarchy, non-monarchs created sauces to make otherwise marginal fare edible, I observe. French words for food that entered the modern English language are much more agreeable to the ear than German equivalents.

No idea what you're going on about with tonsils and ice cream. They gave me sherbet. And today ran all over the place for important but non-medical stuff. The root beer float made my day.

In the US, 640 calories in a large float (32oz), for comparison 540 calories in a Big Mac. Interesting to note that portions are different, usually smaller, in other countries.

No. We'd gotten derailed for awhile-like this thread did before we were moved and.....that's all I'd better say at the risk of getting suspended...again. BTW, I have 2 'Birds, you should try one, they're fun.
