The fire situation in northern California and valleys near LA seems dire.

I see in the news that power utilities are turning power off to lower their liability due to fallen power lines in the northern parts. Imposing a cutoff seems pretty drastic.

Hope that you don’t have to resort to an evacuation.

Free tickets to see The Village People sounds about the same to my being as free tickets to see Foghat.

Saw Foghat in Philly circa 1976. James Gang (minus Joe) opened and they were good. Boston was next and played their whole first album and a cut or two from the as yet unreleased second album. Blew me away. Then Foghat came out and BLEW BOSTON AWAY!!! One of the greatest shows I've seen, and I've seen plenty. Never saw The Village People though...

Good afternoon, GOF's and front and center please, to report in that all appendages are accounted for and still alive and breathing... We had a terrific storm last night. It was so windy the drapes were moving with the windows CLOSED! Perfect Halloween weather. Today's payday so we're going out to one of our favorite animal clubs for a grilled ribeye. Carey usually gets halibut or sauteed jumbo prawns. We're getting ready to go to Fairbanks for Alaska Federation of Natives convention. We're excited because our nice hotel is right near the convention center and the mall, which includes Walmart, Fred Meyer, and Outback! woot woot! Big city food! LOL.

So what say ye, GOF's, what do you have planned for this weekend? Exciting trips, stay at home?

Staying at home and getting the new motorhome ready for it's first trip next week...can't wait - fire weather is subsiding, temps are cooling, kids are back in school, fall colors are showing--life is good ! Oh, and upgrading strings on a few basses and more practice time .

It was so windy the drapes were moving with the windows CLOSED! Perfect Halloween weather. Today's payday so we're going out to one of our favorite animal clubs for a grilled ribeye. Carey usually gets halibut or sauteed jumbo prawns. We're getting ready to go to Fairbanks for Alaska Federation of Natives convention. We're excited because our nice hotel is right near the convention center and the mall, which includes Walmart, Fred Meyer, and Outback! woot woot! Big city food! LOL.

I used to live in Fairbanks—well, Ft. Wainwright actually. It’s certainly not a big city in winter, which is well underway up there already. Had a girlfriend from Tok Junction... she was Athabaskan and invited me for one of their potlatch celebrations. First time I ate bear, whale blubber, and cranberries and lard (the latter is known as Indian Ice Cream in those circles). Enjoy your journey!

Fortunately we are not in the higher elevations so our power stayed on and there were no outbreaks close to us. Imposing a cutoff is their way of responding to the law suits and bankruptcy actions. They are spending a lot on PR but their lack of maintenance of power lines and leaked internal emails are quite telling. Too bad any solution in the future will result in us paying more...such is life. Global warming is not new and those in a position to evaluate and suffer the financial consequences of not responding, should not be given a pass IMHO.

The most blown away night in my [possibly distorted] memory is a single show with Bobby "Blue" Bland, Jimmy "Blue" Witherspoon, Albert King and B.B. King. Got a special called Bluegrass/Country Jam Saturday afternoon, that I'm looking forward to. A subset of musicians from the regular monthly Bluegrass Jam.

Sunday morning church gig. Always uplifting.

But, DANG! This stuffy head and cough is hanging on WAY too long!! Been planning to go to my son's house to help his wife with the 6-month-old for a few days next week while son is on business trip. But I don't think they'll let me in the house if they hear me talk, much less cough. I wouldn't blame them. It's probably just allergies, but it sounds horrible. Using sprays and everything I can find to sound better fast!

In recent years I saw a story of a town in Vermont that desperately needed to build a new school. They forced a referendum and voted no. It came down to people just not wanting to pay taxes to support infrastructure.

The west is plagued with the worst forrest fires. I don’t know if there’s a simple solution. Water bombers are in short supply world wide. I often wonder why. It comes down to cost.

The Red River runs through Manitoba and North Dakota and it floods every year. Always has. They built a floodway around part of Winnipeg in 1968 near the river to divert the spring floods. It costed a lot but paid off. Fargo North Dakota wants to build a similar floodway, they can’t seem to commit to funding it.

Many can’t keep the fatty foods down. Lucky that they didn’t serve fermented seal flipper. Just the smell will send visitors hurling.

Looks like I'm going to a local dive called The California Brew Haus tomorrow night to see the band Nerds In Denial. A very good band of youngsters that just happens to have an awesome keyboard player...my son. I used to play this dive back in the day. FWIW it was a dive back then too. I'll try to get some pix/video.

Found a new to me pizza place today. Delivery orders were flying out of the place. It turns out that they’re a family shop that’s been in business since 1950. I figure that they must be doing something right and are well worth a try. Maybe Sunday.

Weather is warmer than it was, mid to high 60’s and sun today. No jacket required.

Fargo. Standard postscript conversion to 72 points / inch because Adobe says so. And it is the first week of February. It is not the first time colleagues learn of my temperature induced Tourette Syndrome the moment I step beyond the front door.

Last I heard of fermented sea mammal tidbits it is from Iceland. And who read the boring parts of Moby Dick anyway?

Oh yeah you know whut. In Fargo they eat lutefisk. Serious. Who's going to grief me about what I eat where lutefisk is a menu item.

Last time that I as in Fargo, I recall that the mosquitoes were huge.

I know that Inuit love the fermented seal flippers. They put it in a pot and ripen it in the ground.

Never tried Lutefisk. They sell a lot of salt dried fish at a grocery that I shop at. The older ladies from Jamaica and Haiti buy armloads of it.

Was in a large retail store this evening. The store was fully decorated for Christmas. October 11 and counting. I love the season but this seems to set an earlybird record.

A dollar store has been selling decorations since late September. Maybe they know that winter is coming early this year. I had enough of winter last year with the late spring.

Ringo has a new record coming out. He recorded an old John Lennon song, Grow Old With Me from the Milk and Honey album (1984). It was written in 1980 during a Bermuda vacation.

Jack Douglas recently suggested Ringo record the song. He told Ringo that John actually said at the end of the early demo, "This one is for you, Ringo!" Ringo loved the idea. He called Paul and he said yes. Brother-in-Law Joe Walsh is on guitar. Jack Douglas did a beautiful string arrangement for the song. Ringo listened to it and said, "Did you add a little bit of Here Comes The Sun in there?" Jack said yes. The result is a beautiful new version of John's Grow Old With Me. Ringo has said it felt a little like a Beatles reunion.

Halloween isn't for weeks, shouldn't we be posting Black Friday spam already too?

This year's been pretty tough on my Friday night jam crew. Found out last night that the host has heart surgery scheduled in two weeks, a very quick escalation since he only became aware of a problem about two weeks ago. The other bass player had the same procedure earlier this year, and another recurring visitor needs it but has no insurance. Ugghh!
