Thank you! What I'm learning now is how not to aggravate the joint. It came down, ultimately, to my decision to give the go-ahead for the procedure. Wednesday's flair up was enough to initiate the next step as the diagnosis is as clear as the x-ray. Lots of doctors in the loop.

The MacOS is UNIX. The machine runs unix with a user interface sitting on top. This has been the case for many years. There’s long been a terminal window that allows you to gain access to the low level UNIX. MacOS is fully certified by the Open Group as UNIX, not a version or subset of:

In an effort to catch up, Microsoft Windows 10 and what follows will support UNIX. They did this in a effort to increase performance of the operating system and open it up to cross platform execution. Linux can be installed and run in a shell.

It’s what it all means. Older folks are going to need a dog or a three year old to help use anything electronic. I still know how to boot my TV and change the channels but what will the future bring?.

As it is, I only use vintage instruments and amps. The thought of anything new, other than a vintage reissue, gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Here's my take, and strictly a personal take.

Long since consigned [Windows] - Mac (Intel - Motorola) operating system discussions as I do any religious conviction.

Now in the course of my former line of work it is necessary for [an earlier iteration of] me to have personal command of enough technical expertise to trusted with root privilege on enterprise systems. Yet never expected to change anything myself. If need be, I could. And, rarely, did.* We had people for that. My work as a bridge between the tech folks and the creative folks meant a great deal of professional interaction with both Mac and PC cultures.

These cultural lines should have been aligned toward the same goal. In, theory, I suppose, maybe. In practice, what I saw is it is about money and power. Which is really not a great surprise if you look at it long enough.

I want to start doing this. We have parties here in the summer with jams, but I want to start having monthly jams here if I can get people to come. The hardest part of that is making sure you have good drummers, 'cause everyone's a guitarist. My husband plays drums, but he's a jazz drummer and his rock chops aren't what most of my friends would find easy to jam with. So I dunno. I guess if I toss it out into the universe and see who responds, it's a start.

Our drummer[and both our guitarists]is a jazz guy at heart. He often doesn't play loud enough*; his rock chops are sufficient for our 50s-70s repertoire. I would guess that it would be easier, if frustrating-er, for a jazz drummer to develop rock chops than the other way 'round.

I had one of those type consoles. A tube based Silvertone that had a sound that I long for. I remember dropping the needle back and forth trying to figure out many a song.

Heh! Working on having nothing more than ten years old in my whole bass amp rig these days, and all my basses are post-2000 production and decidedly non-vintage. Geezer's Compensation, I guess.

Just got my NAMM credential email two nights ago, this year the badge says "Demonstrator." My lovely wife asked me to try not to get arrested. Perspective is everything, I reckon.
