Many, many years ago, I worked at THE hotdog factory. We made about 40% of the hotdogs in the US. Generally speaking, the quality of the meat ingredients is far above that found in lunch meats. The absolute best cut of a hog is used in making hotdogs - cheeck meat.

If you buy hot dogs from a good butcher, you get a better product and no preservatives. I think that the chemicals are worse than the low quality meat from packing companies.

Yes they do have a lot of preservatives.

The company I worked for had USDA inspectors in all our plants. Their presence didn’t make anything safer or cleaner. They hung out in their inspectors office all day playing cards and Solitaire on a PC.

Cheeky monkey.

Does your cat like to do this?

I showed the video to the wife, thinking that it would be a better option than throwing her rescue cat into a 4' deep Koi pond. She said that she would have to wear "protective equipment" before trying this in a bath tube. I am convinced the 4' option is better ;).

I bought that beast one of those electronic flopping bass toys. She bats it every once and a while, looks at me and just walks away. How long to cats live?

I'm sure our "Red Sea Pedestrian" brethren will be delighted by that news...

In WWII my dad had to eat Spam on a regular basis. Mom loved it and so did Tom and me (I?). On weekend mornings sometimes Mom would make spam and eggs, but would make corned beef hash from the can for Dad. He was a simple man that didn't require a lot of special attention, much like most of our veterans from The Big One. BTW wife Carey hates Spam so I haven't had Spam and eggs prolly for decades. No big loss to me. She also hates Lima beans and those I miss now and then...

I don't know about hot dogs, but I can tell you that Thursdays were bologna days at the Oscar Meyer plant in Madison, WI in the '70s. There was a small, post WWII cottage housing area for employees. Across the street from the houses, and kitty-corner from the plant was the plant's wastewater pond. And, boy, did it put up a stank on Thursdays. So bad, that the employees in the company houses complained.

So, the big Oscar did something about it. They installed vertical pipes on each fence post around the pond and pumped lilac-scented gas out through them on Thursdays.

Helped, right?

On the first Thursday they activated the system, my buddy, his dog and I were driving past in his van with the windows open. The dog puked all over the van. Poor guy didn't have an open window like we did.

That system was only used that one time. Apparently, having their employees puking all over their homes wasn't the outcome they had in mind.
