I'm 48 and sold my house to get the darn kids off of my lawn!....
And my wife says I whine like an old man......
BUT my fingers still can move good enough to play my bass and keep up with them darn kids playing music... :)

If a few years, I may join the club.

Oh, and fart smells fade over time. Brought to you by:

Question is: The wife just being kind about it and just not using the G word?

When I was a kid we had a crank phone and an outhouse.
I'm 57 now. Do I qualify?

I guess I better get a number, I am 56 and I am getting cranky.... but mostly due to getting a divorce.

That'll make anyone grump.

In my day, we din't need no numbers to know we was in a club. You young kids is always countin' stuff. We just got buzy bein' whut we was bein'.

Just noticing your sig line there at the bottom. When people compliment my bass playing, they use words like "solid"...never once heard anything like "fancy". I would absolutely love to be a "bassist who became drummer", but for the life of me, I can't seem to split my brain into 4 parts and keep it all together. I can get 2 down pretty good (playing bass and singing), but that's because I don't have to think much about one of them too much (and not always the same one...it varies). To become some sort of octopus and keep all that stuff going to me seems nothing short of magic.

Don't sell yourself short. If you're playing bass and singing you're doing three things at the same time. Count 'em...left hand, right hand, and voice. Now don't you feel better about your grumpy old self?

M. M. :)

I can either play bass (guitar, upright or tuba) or sing. Doing both is quite a chore (don't go there with the tuba). I don't do pedals. I guess that's why I never was interested in drums, but it also means you can forget my playing pipe organ as well. When I do end up playing keys, even at church, I usually play with the melody and chord in the right hand and the left hand doing the bass line in octaves, like the English did playing their keyboards from 1660 to 1840 before they put what we would call a "modern" pedal board on their organs.

Talk about grumpy: the debate raged from @1800 to @1850 over these "new-fangled" pedals, as there were no real standards as to the console layout. They were the ultimate grumpy players.

Think about it: what if, in order to play, you had to play the house instrument for every gig you played in each different venue, and each instrument was different: the number of strings, the length of scale, the number of frets, the placement of the pickups, the position of the tuners, the width of the nut and bridge, different kinds, ages and conditions of strings, the amplification, the overall condition of the instrument, including a buzzing fret or dead spot here or there, but each in a different place, and you had to wait on their repairman to come look at it, etc.; nothing was standard; each detail was different for each different instrument at each different place you played.

You would be grumpy, too!
